I recently saw Fitchi House online and vowed to visit sometime and I'm finally glad I did. Based on what I've read and the decal in the window, Fitchi House used to be Milano Pizza and Pasta. I personally am very glad the owners decided to pivot towards offering Turkmen food. I can imagine the foot traffic may be lower, but I hope they can hang in because they put out tasty Turkmen food. They still offer the mainstay Italian-American dishes and the kofte I ordered had garlic bread and salad that could easily be found with an Italian meal. Fitchi House is on the main drag of Wallingford and it is painted in an attractive golden yellow with black accents. The interior had 4 tables and was contemporarily outfitted with bright white tables and chairs and some plants on the tables. I ordered some of the main Turkmen dishes: fitchi, somsa, and kofte. The lady running the shop seemed to be impressed that I seemed to know what to order and asked where I was from. I am not of Central Asian descent but I definitely knew that I wanted to try the Turkmen food. The owners and especially the lady were nice hosts. The lady was especially kind and gracious. I think she appreciated sharing dishes from her heritage. Her demeanor just makes me want to visit all the time. Back to the food, after ordering she went to work. It took about 10 minutes to make the three items and each were delicious. They were all hearty dishes with meat and dough playing major roles. I especially liked the fitchi and kofte. The kofte was like an empanada but instead of crust made of dough it was ground meat and inside was a healthy amount of cheese. The fitchi were delicious as well with flavorful meat in a squat cylindrical pastry. The meat reminded me of pelmeni filling that I grew up with. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and hope to return soon. I hope more people pay a visit because the Turkmen...
Read moreThis is the first, and probably only review I will ever write, but this place was too good to stay quiet about. I grew up in a place where multi-cultural family owned restaurants with GOOD food (which was also extremely affordable) were the norm. In this way, I've been extremely disappointed in the Wallingford area. This place, however - THIS PLACE - just hits the spot. I've never had Fitchi or Samsa before, and this was the perfect place to start. First of all, the little meat pies/pockets were GORGEOUS to look at. I almost couldn't bring myself to eat them because I didn't want to destroy these lovingly baked little pieces of art! Yet, after my first bite...they were both gone in about five minutes. How can I properly describe the sheer child-like joy that comes from biting into a warm, juicy meat pie, unleashing the aroma of onions and spices with every salivating bite? I guess I just did. Did I mention the juice? As you eat, you get delicious little trickles of this hearty beef and onion broth that stews inside of the pie while baking, gradually warming your whole body - it's freaking heavenly on a cold night. Sounds like quite the expensive dining experience, right? WRONG, this place was incredibly affordable! For around 11$ plus tip and a drink, I was absolutely stuffed. I had a beef fitchi and a chicken samsa, and either one alone was enough for one whole meal. Will I be going back for more? Yes, absolutely. Tonight. This morning. The next day - heck, I'd sleep in the oven if they'd let me. Nestled amongst those warm, delectable little meat pies, letting their heavenly aroma carry me off...
Read moreI ordered from the Fitchi House for the first time yesterday. I used their websites online ordering.
When I arrived, the employee told me "drinks are over there." I had ordered a sprite, an orange soda, and a bottle of water. They had two mountain dew cans, and the rest was ginger ale. I asked for a refund, and after a few minutes of the employee futzing around and not being able go figure out how to refund me, I just took the soda they had, even though it wasn't what I had ordered or wanted.
Then, they were out of sour cream that was supposed to come with my manty dumplings. His explanation was that "yesterday was a busy day." Fine. He gave me a container of ranch that leaked on my order on the walk home. I had also ordered the chicken samsa combo. However, when I asked about the spring rolls and side salad listed on the menu (I had to pull up their website to show him) he had to call someone and ask about it. He then told me they didn't have spring rolls, but he could make me a side salad. The side salad was cucumber, tomato, and onion. No lettuce, no dressing. Good thing I had the ranch that spilled over everything.
The manty were tasty, tho I missed my sour cream. The salad was fine. The samsa was not chicken, but the meat was seasoned well, tho the outside was a bit hard. Overall, the quality and price were not worth the frustrating experience I had at this restaurant. If you've read this review and still want to try them, I would highly recommend calling or going in as it seems that if you order online, you are unlikely to receive anything you...
