3/5 Stars because the experience wasn't the best, but this place has A LOT of potential to be a 5/5. This is all based on the experience of the food, the staff, the appearance, the space, and the lasting impression.
For context, I just found this place the day of. I went in blind with no expectations other than reading the menu to make sure they had things I could eat (peanut/seafood allergies) and looking at images of the space. I feel like the vibe of the restaurant doesn't match the image of it, perhaps.
Here are a few bullet points about the space/experience instead of some self-serving paragraph:
the dark space + the warm table lighting presents the entire experience as intimate.
*The music can get pretty loud for such a small, intimate-looking spot. This ends up making you have to yell across the table to make sure your table mate (and inadvertently your neighbors) can hear you. I honestly don't get a rock or loud music vibe from the space, but I do respect and love the creative freedom in the workplace.
the staff feels a bit distant and uninterested (I get it tho) which in this current Seattle season is detrimental. It's cold and rainy now. Warmth matters on many levels.
it's colder by the entrance (like very cold) so dress appropriately
the little table lamps and flowers are cute as hell and we appreciated them since it's kind of dark inside.
We ordered:
The Spanish Fried Rice with Chicken (2/5) The Chorizo Meatballs (4/5) The Fig and Lemon Parfait (3/5) I Touch Roses (4/5) Coyote & The Columbia (4.5/5)
*The Spanish fried rice (2/5) was a bit underwhelming. It had the natural Spanish rice flavor but could've used a bit of spice for heat and the mix of textures with the chicken (not diced or made smaller) and mushrooms among other things made it hard to get a fork-full. It's a pretty chaotic dish and because of all these factors, isn't fun to eat.
*The Chorizo Meatballs (4/5) ended up being our favorite dish. The entire thing was flavorful and the charred/crisp texture of the arepitas set it over the top. The only drawback was that the meatballs were kind of dry. Made it hard to break them up and reduced the flavor overall. Still good though.
The Fig and Lemon Parfait (3/5) was something we were excited about. Loved the concept, but we ended up having expectations (our fault ) The cream/lemon part was a bit more like Italian ice rather than yogurt or custard, which was still cool, but very lemony and acidic. The fig portion at the bottom helps to balance it out a bit, but it was still pretty zesty/tart in flavor. The candied walnuts were our least favorite part, unfortunately. They were lacking in both texture and flavor. There was no firmness to the walnuts which made them dissolve in your mouth, and with no flavor, it made them the thing we only ate to ground the already acidic dessert. Maybe toasted or spiced, they'd add a wider range of flavor and texture to the dish.
(drink reviews are brief because we didn't take photos and that's an important part)
The Coyote & Columbia (4/5) (not pictured) was a surprisingly great cocktail. It had a simple, yet pleasing look to it. The flavor was smooth and full with a spooky smoothness to it. It was kind of hard to stop drinking it My only qualm was that it felt like a light pour (maybe that's why it was so smooth)
*I Touch Roses (4/5) was good all around, but the presentation was a bit dull. No true complaints.
All in all, I do recommend experiencing it for yourself and making your own conclusions about this restaurant. With a 3/5 rating, this is something worth returning to, because Dead Line has the potential to be a 5/5 experience for all. I plan to come back again, honestly. One experience does not equate to the whole experience. At the very least I hope that you can enjoy it more than I did. Happy eating! Photo of Dead Line - Seattle, WA, United States....
Read moreWas excited to visit this place tonight on behalf of my close friend's choice for my birthday dinner. Upon arrival we were half greeted at the door by a great value version of Tom Sandoval. We had reservations, but instead of being properly approached we were met with, "three of you?". He must have felt like he did God's service of placing us at a more intimate table (by the storage closet) rather than by the entry door. Once seated, he followed up to take our order. I ordered my drink and food after confirming we were ready for all, and he said to me "is that ALL for you?" ... We tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant it in the sense of asking if I needed anything else, but the tone was not resembling of that case. I ordered a drink and a cheese plate and got shaded for it like... what? My friend attempted to order her drink, a cucumber martini, a bartender herself, noting that the beverage she requested had ingredients that were in other drinks on the menu. He cut her off and started to explain that the ONLINE menu drinks were out of date and that they couldn't make certain things because they don't have the ingredients. Totally understandable however, no one had looked at the online menu, additionally this restaurant has a full bar. We were looking at the menus we were given. We also weren't looking for the drink style he described, she was trying to explain what she wanted and was shut down without the chance. She opted for a simpler, more common beverage and we completed our order. He comes back, and says that they took a cucumber from the kitchen and could make a the original martini. My friend declined and said that it was fine as to just continue on, and he said to her "Nope-you're getting what you wanted". This wasn't a friendly comment, and was said very apparently that he was displeased with us. We decided to leave very briefly after this. A lot of the issues here were based on the matter of tone and are hard to accurately describe in a typed review. Will...
Read moreWhile I rarely write reviews, I can't let this one slip by. Made a reservation that was confirmed for today. We show up on time and this was the 15 minute interaction. We were greeted by the bartender as we walked in and he had a look of despair on his face. I mentioned that we had a reservation and he stated that they had an issue with the reservation system and he would be right back with us. At first, not a problem as these things happen. However, he didn't return due to being busy at the bar. Not a problem there either. We see 2 seats available at the bar, but as the sign said, we had to wait to be seated. So we were polite and waited. 10 minutes later, a server was dropping off food at one of the tables and proceeds to tell us that we won't be seated for awhile.... Sorry! And he went on his way.
The major issue with this experience was we were the only two waiting and he never offered the two empty seats at the bar or the 4 empty seats on the patio. And before ya ask, it was a sunny day! If you have an issue with your reservation system, you would think you would try to put in the effort to provide good customer service and try to do what you can, instead of being dismissive.
So thanks to the good folks at Damn The Weather next door, for seating us right away on their patio and serving us great food and drinks ;) Had you guys been as proactive as they were, you wouldn't be reading this review. Take this as a...
