I visited La Dive in Capitol Hill on two occasions, and unfortunately both experiences felt similarly hostile. As a Black person, I was particularly hurt by the service.
On my most recent visit, the bartender – a light-skinned Black woman with colored, curly hair wearing a tie-dye shirt – was openly unwelcoming from the start. When anyone in my group asked a question, she yelled, “Look at the menu,” rather than addressing our questions. The same dismissive attitude was directed toward other parties too.
What stood out was how much her service seemed influenced by appearances—how patrons “looked” or if they seemed to fit in—rather than on treating every customer with basic respect. That experience felt exclusionary and hurtful, and sadly, I’m not alone—other reviews describe similar behavior.
Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of background or appearance. I hope La Dive reviews their service standards so that all patrons...

Turned to make my drink then came back to ask for IDs, literally threw them on the bar after checking them. I told my partner not to order anything else because I didn’t want to stay longer than necessary. Ended up not touching my martini at all. And CRIED when we returned to our booth. Mind you we were both sober. Watching him interact with other patrons he seemed to be much happier so idk what I/ my partner did. We had previously had positive experiences here; but...

My friend is allergic to sesame seeds/oils, so when we asked the server if there was anything she could eat they seemed quite flustered at our ask. To make things easier, we asked if the PITA bread was something we could order. Again they were pretty flustered at our ask but said they could make it work. Y’all… This pita bread tasted like defrosted Eggo waffles. Two terrible cocktails that we didn’t finish and defrosted tasting pita bread for $32? Yeah I won’t be...
