I don't get into reviews too much but I think Macrina is my favorite place to be in Seattle. First, they have a LOT of bread, bagels, cookies, cakes, everything. So before we go knocking them let's appreciate the sheer volume of work being done in this place. It is a well-run business. More importantly, it tastes good. Second, the actual design of the space is good. A lot of natural wood, and space for a large group of if you're there by yourself. Also a lot of natural light. Third, I woudn't say it's unreasonably priced. Room for improvement can be found in the coffee service, and sometimes when it gets busy, the cleanliness. Specifically, you can't really order anything more advanced with the coffee. I basically got lectured that i had to put my own sugar in the coffee. lol. Well, the same girl also made it a point to tell me to order in front of the bread, not at the register. lol, even though I was only ordering a tea. but whatever. Generally speaking people there are actually really nice. I see people mention this: I don't really see a problem with building my own cream cheese and lox bagel, but if you want a full service place, this isn't really the spot. I will end by saying I am still upset that they don't serve the Macringle any longer (Too complicated to make for the price), but such is...
Read moreWe walked to Macrina Bakery & Cafe on a Friday morning. By 10am the inside was already packed with few seats available outside as well. Luckily we were able to snag a table outside right as another party was leaving. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of the pastries before eating them.
We ordered a cold brew, cappuccino, raspberry lemon cake, ginger cookie, upside apple cardamom cake, and chocolate orange coffee cake.
The coffees were pretty good. I'm not a coffee snob or connoisseur by any means but I thought the cappuccino was tasty.
The apple cardamom cake was decent but slightly dry. I'm not the biggest fan of cardamom, but could appreciate the flavor combination.
The ginger cookie was easily the best pastry we ordered and had an amazingly satisfying chewy texture.
The raspberry lemon cake had good flavor but was a little dry.
The chocolate orange coffee cake was also a little dry, but was really good when you were able to get a bite with lots of chocolate chips in it.
Overall, I was satisfied with my visit to Macrina Bakery & Cafe. It is located in Capitol Hill in an extremely cute area, which makes it a great neighborhood coffee spot. I would love to visit again to try out their other pastries, and could see this place becoming a regular spot if I...
Read moreMacrina Bakery is my old reliable bakery and coffee shop in Seattle. You know you’ll always get a decent cup of coffee and a great pastry.
The options are incredible, it’s sometimes hard to pick. My boyfriend and I never agree on what to order, so we have to get multiple items every time. I have never been disappointed. They have refrigerated cakes, cookies, pastries, savory things, sweet things, bars, you name it. The prices range from $4-10, but it’s Seattle so what do you expect? Not a $2 cookie I’ll tell you that much.
The baked goods are worth the price. The coffee isn’t anything to write home about, but it’s never bad. If anything it’s overpriced, but so is everything these days. Inflation, am I right. How is a girl supposed to afford a latte? I ordered a drip coffee.
The atmosphere is great, fairly cozy but also a little modern. Always lots of people working, talking, hanging out, going on first dates. Saw a terrible first date here one time, the guy had a really obvious hair implant and was talking about The Last of Us podcast.
Needless to say, even if the date sucked, I’m sure their coffee and baked goods made up for it! He probably even left her wanting more….wanting more baked goods from Macrina...
