Our experience at Shafer Baillie Mansion was such an unexpected gift and surprise, even though we were aware that we had planned a stay at a truly magnificent historic home. Brenda, the innkeeper, has a natural gift at hospitality. She was easy to communicate with before our arrival and was extremely accommodating with our needs for a late, self-check in and parking. Never once did she makes us feel like an inconvenience or high maintenance. She put us up in what she described her favorite room in the house. The room has a cheerful, classic and yet modern design aesthetic. The house itself is an incredible work of art and craftsmanship with grand rooms, beautiful carved wooden details and built-in furniture throughout. We had everything we could need in our room, which was sparkling clean, luxurious and comfortable. The private attached bathroom has been completely remodeled with all modern fixtures, bright white tile, and clean design. We wished we had more time to rest at Shafer Baillie Mansion, but got in so late that we had to head straight to bed shortly after arriving. We slept comfortably through the night and headed downstairs for a self-serve breakfast spread around 9:30. There was granola, cereal and greek yogurt, and all kinds of other offerings. We enjoyed some delicious Stash brand Earl Grey tea with breakfast and had the most wonderful visit with Brenda at the dining room table. Brenda is a compassionate, genuine host, and talked with us all about our marriage and music career and shared with us about her experiences in the music industry. We left feeling cared for and encouraged by the friendship she offered us over breakfast. Brenda is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the home’s history and special quirks (she showed us secret hidden cabinets that completely disappear into the dining room wall, where crystal and alcohol was kept during prohibition). There is even a speakeasy downstairs with original perimeter folding theater seats and a little stage. We highly recommend Shafer Baillie Mansion to anyone looking for a stunning and comfortable place to stay during their next business or pleasure trip in Seattle. We certainly look forward to the next time we return to the area and to Brenda and the magnificent Shafer...
Read moreIf you want to step out your front door into the exciting hurly-burly of downtown Seattle, choose one of the big hotels. But if you want a quiet, revitalizing home base for your adventures, you won't do better than the Shafer Baillie Mansion B&B. It's gorgeously restored and maintained but feels comfortable -- it doesn't scream "Look but don't touch!" (Be sure to explore the library/history room!) We loved the couple of hours between the day's outing and the evening's dinner, with coffee and fruit and snacks and sweets always at the ready to enjoy in our room or in the enticing sunroom.||Breakfast was excellent and hearty -- always a different "main dish," warm, with an accompanying selection of fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, pastries and bread, cheeses, prosciutto, and more. There's a super-long dining table right out of a BBC historical drama, but if you're feeling private, there are other small tables tucked into nearby rooms.||The neighborhood is shaded and lovely, perfect for warm days and evenings. Volunteer Park is just steps from the Inn and includes the beautifully renovated Seattle Asian Art Museum. And four or five blocks away, in pretty much any direction, are dozens of restaurants of all types and sizes. We never felt the need to dine outside Capitol Hill.||We stayed in the Volunteer Park Room, which was nicely furnished and maintained and included -- so rare in B&Bs! -- an actual walk-in closet with oodles of space for our clothes and luggage. Loved it!||Last but absolutely not least, our alternating hosts, Ana and Brenda, were unfailingly friendly and helpful. Since we have family nearby, the location is a natural for us, but even if we didn't, Shafer Baillie would be...
Read moreIt was such a treat to stay at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The building is so gorgeous and very well maintained. It is adorned with antique furniture, area rugs, light fixtures and window treatments. The common rooms are stunning. We stayed in the Queen Anne Hill room which has an extremely comfortable, four post bed that is a bit tall and requires a step to get into; it’s quite the novelty. It has a great bathroom with a two person (with two shower heads) shower stall. The linens and towels are high quality, such as you’d find at a high end hotel. The best part of our stay was the hospitality of the proprietors. We were sent an information email prior to our arrival. We were greeted at the door by the innkeeper, Brenda, who handed me a J1772 adapter for the level 2 Tesla charger so that I could charge my non-Tesla PHEV. It turned out to be the personal property of the owner, Ana Lena, who was so kind to lend it to me for the duration of our stay. The breakfasts were excellent which included a home made, hot item each morning, cheeses and sliced meats, fresh pastries, and my wife’s favourite, fresh bagels with lox and cream cheese. Orange juice and freshly brewed coffee is available at breakfast with Keurig coffee available at all times. Mandarin oranges, biscotti, cookies, chocolates and cold, bottled water were also available all day. We plan on staying at the Shafer Baillie whenever we find ourselves in Seattle and will encourage our friends and family to...
