It’s rare to find a restaurant where you feel like you’re dining in someone’s home. Diego & Lisa, the husband and wife team who run Tapas Angel do just that. My partner and I brought a friend here after Pioneer Square Art Walk and we were amazed at the spectacular flavors, attentive service, and generous portions. We started with a carafe of the house sangria. Actually, we ordered three sangrias and Diego recommended the full carafe because it’s a better deal. It was the perfect drink to sip on the first warm spring day! Everything we ate was spectacular- a unique blend of Iberian and Carribean-Latino flavors. We loved the picadillo empanada which was crisp and filled with deliciously spiced meat. Next the maduros and yuca arrived which were both hot and fluffy with delicious dipping sauces. The pulpo (octopus) was spectacular- served Galician style with potatoes and a mind-blowing garlic aioli, I felt like I was on the Mediterranean. To finish the feast we had the pork tenderloin, served with a rich Oloroso sherry cream sauce, and albóndigas (lamb meatballs) in a smoky and slightly spicy red sauce. We looked up after hours of talking and laughing to realize we were the only ones in the restaurant! Diego reassured us we were welcome with an extra little splash of sangria and some wonderful conversation about his Colombian heritage and travels and family in Cuba, Spain, and Miami. If you’re looking for delicious home cooking and a place to relax and connect over food, Tapas Angel is the place! We’ll be...
Read moreDon't be fooled by the modest size of this restaurant. The minute you walk in, you know you are in a special place. The aromas wafting from the kitchen nailed it for us! We ordered the spinach salad (Espinaca) which was full of fresh ingredients and flavors and presented beautifully. It was big enough for two people to share. Next came the mushroom turnover (Setas Empanadas) and the truffle oil and mozzarella made us want another one. We moved on to the Blue Corn Fish Tacos, made from house made blue corn tortillas. The black beans infused with the cucumber salsa and creamy jerk sauce were perfect for the fish. Along with that dish, we ordered the Cuban Black Beans and Rice; so delicious with subtle seasoning and flavor. As incredible as the food and presentation were, our favorite element of this restaurant is the owner Diego. Not only does he know his wine and can patiently explain the nuances of the different regions, he is passionate about the food and making the dining experience one of a kind. He did not disappoint! Thanks, Angel, er, Diego. We will visit again next time we are in Seattle. Sincerely, Peter and...
Read moreTapas Angel just might be the best kept secret in Seattle! Ate here for dinner with family. We could tell the moment we walked in that we were going to have a great time! Diego and Lisa were incredibly welcoming and the restaurant was full of regulars.
We decided to let Diego, the owner, tell us what we should go for. Every dish was perfectly prepared, flavorful and unique. Diego walked us through every dish as he dropped them off and suggested how we should prepare them, and what the flavors were that we were experiencing. The drinks were also delicious and perfectly paired with every menu item we tried. The vermuts were all phenomenal.
It’s rare to get this level of service and great food outside of fine dining, but the crew at Tapas Angel have managed to pull it off without being stuffy and in a setting where you feel like you’re catching up with...
