The food is good here, tasty, reasonable price for your typical Thai food in Seattle. I would give it a higher rating except for THIS:
When I placed my order to go, ALL of the curry dishes, regardless of what vegetables were in them were priced THE SAME. The only price difference was based on whether it was tofu/chicken/pork, or beef/shrimp. So logically, considering the curry sauce itself is made separately from the vegetables and protein added, I should be able to ask for the vegetables that are included on one menu listing (I.e. green curry dish comes with bell pepper, bamboo shoots, basil, eggplant, and green beans) but get the panang curry sauce INSTEAD of the green curry, right? So simple - just ladle the panang curry sauce on top if the vegetables typically prepared under the menu listing for green curry. But no! I was patiently explained to that even though there was no price dufference based in the sauce or vegetables included, that it was just "policy" and that the owner would be offended by a change in sauce paired with vegetables! But I was welcome to pay $3.00 extra to choose the vegetables I wanted to include from the other menu listing, which was basically a $3 upcharge for the chef to put the same sauce he would have made for a panang dish onto some vegetables that they would have made for a dish in their menu anyways. No sense whatsoever. After being a bit insistent that this was ridiculous and asking when the manager would be in in person to speak with him, I was told I could email him. I continued to press and asked when he would be in so I could speak in person at which point they told me he only comes to the Lake Union location. Once I asked for that address, the hostess took my order request of the panang curry served with all the vegetables that were on the green curry menu listing and asked the chef in the kitchen if he would be "willing to do ke a favor this one time". Fortunately for all, he did do me this "favor". The long and short is, this is absolutely ridiculous business practice when it has no impact on cost to the business whatsoever, denies the customer the ability to have a proper amount of vegetable in a dish, and attempts to significantly upcharge a customer for a menial shift in the dish making process. I DO appreciate however, the helpfulness of the hostess in presenting my request to the chef, amd the chef for obliging my simple request. That said, unless if this becomes a simple and straight forward option, I will not be a future patron at...
Read moreNot the worst but absolutely not good. The wait staff is friendly, professional, and I like how fast the fast service is. When I went the first time, I got the Kee Mao noodles and a Dr Pepper. First of all, my drink was definitely not Dr Pepper, as it tasted more like a horrible cheap knockoff that I couldn't have more than two sips of. Second, there was so much grease in the noodles that I needed to order a side of rice to have something to eat w the veggies/protein I had to pick out of the inedible noodles soaked in grease. Even though I had a bad experience the first time, I decided to give it another try because of all the reviews that are raving about the peanut sauce. I figured maybe I just didn't order the right thing. My order for my second (and last) time: fresh spring rolls and fried rice. The spring rolls were rolled very tight so nothing fell out, which I appreciate. However, I don't understand why there is two proteins and scarce veggies. It's a fresh spring roll that just didn't taste that fresh, thanks to the dry chicken within it. The peanut sauce? More like bland peanut paste. Finally, the fried rice was decent. Although, I don't understand why two whole tomatoes were thrown into it. Also, found a beard hair on top of the pile of rice, almost like a garnish, when I opened the carton. Thoroughly disappointed, completely not worth the money, and will...
Read moreI placed a takeout order and asked whether they could make the fresh rolls without shrimp (explaining that I had a shellfish allergy), and they said they could not because the fresh rolls were made ahead of time. Fine, I ordered the Tom Kha soup instead, which makes no mention of shellfish. Back home, several spoonfuls into the dish my heightened ability to to detect the taste of shellfish kicked in (this sense has been well-honed from evenings crouched in front of the toilet vomiting, and incidents in foreign countries with paramedics who think I'm dying), and I put down the spoon and called Thai Thani. They confirmed that, yes, they had put fish sauce in the Tom Kha (even though it is not mentioned on the menu) and that, yes, the fish sauce they use contains shrimp (even though not all fish sauce does, and even though I had mentioned the shellfish allergy).
The discourteous response from the hostess on the phone was enough to make me consider going to the restaurant and spending the evening throwing up in their dining room, rather than at home. They will not get a...
