Offensively unmindful/unfriendly to vegetarian/vegan. After telling the waiter I was vegetarian (which I normally don't do, or have to do) he told me "I wouldn't even taste" the fish in the soup broth! Then he served me a fish broth base side soup! Read on for story. When browsing the menu, I asked if one of the meatless soups had meat broth, the waiter replied, "that's a hard question". Then something like, I dont know.... no, most of our soups use a fish broth. I told him I dont eat fish, and he said I wouldn't even taste it! I said, "no I'm vegetarian, I dont eat meat or fish" he said he understood. So soup was off the menu because I had no faith in his ability to tell me whether the soup was vegetarian or not. My only option became the vegetable bibimbop. When it came out, it had a side soup with it. I took a sip of the side soup unsuspectingly, and sure enough it tasted like there was a fish base. Sure enough, the soup turned out to be korean egg drop soup, which uses an anchovy base! I've never had an issue like this before, and it's even crazier to me that this...
Read moreA great little Korean restaurant with amazing service and yummy food.
I had come here after looking for a spot to get some work done. After calling, the owners were very kind to let me know that they had WiFi available for paying customers. As this was surprisingly rare for other restaurants I called in for, I got myself some kimchi stew and set myself up at the table.
There is lots of seating available and you order at a self-serve kiosk near the entrance. The entrance is very accessible and they can host a variety of party sizes. Just make sure you let them know ahead of time if you are going to have a large group!
The stew had just the right flavors and came with kimichi and rice. For the price, I was very happy since I’d been eating lots of overpriced food since I landed here for my trip. They were quick with the meal prep, offered plenty of food for one, and offered wonderful customer service. They also have a bathroom that is accessible for paying customers! Couldn’t think of any place better to get some home cooked...
Read moreI get it: rent, wages, ingredients. And maybe since I just got back from whistler BC I have rose colored goggles bc prices there (a premier world ski resort town) are cheaper than Seattle (without even accounting for currency differences!).
But if your spicy pork bimbop bowl has barely two tablespoons of meat and not many more veggies for $22 (with tip, egg, and transaction fee for using a self order tablet ha) something is very, very wrong. And yeah the food was just ok. Probably a small step above H-Mart or the like but not much.
No wonder everyone I know is eating in more and hoping something in Seattle shifts (food cart pods, better rent control laws, more small biz breaks?). This just can’t continue.
And I feel sorry the UW kids. I never would have survived college on these prices, not to mention I’m walking away hungry. I could have eaten three of these portions as...
