I attended an event in “the back room” of your restaurant on a Sunday afternoon in late September. My friends told me there was no service so one had to go up to the bar to order food and drinks. After waiting in line for about 10 minutes, a young woman took my order. She could not answer any questions about ciders and reluctantly poured me the champagne I ordered out of a small bottle (I’m sure there was some left but that was quickly taken away.) I had to really push to order food being sure to ask for the types of sauces I wanted. I was barely asked anything and since I had to get my own drinks and order my own food, I was surprised at the 20% tip that she told me was automatically added to my card (Maybe I should have paid cash, a note to others who don’t want to be charged for non-service! ) I asked if the food could be brought to me in the back room & she reluctantly agreed although if I was willing to wait there, I’m sure she would not have shared that info with me.

The chicken strips and fries were actually quite good but service folks could not wait to remove our plates of unfinished food. Wow, suddenly, they were capable of coming into the back room! Shocking! I had to guard my food and get my own “to go” box. Since we went past the allotted time for the back room reservation, they wanted us out!. My group was ordering a lot of drinks and would have been happy to do so for a few more hours. I did not see any groups waiting to come in and they did not offer us any tables in the main area.

Many restaurants/bars in the area were closed so they were doing well. Maybe they did not like us because we were an older crowd, but our group was ordering a lot of drinks and paying the 20% gratuity for ZERO service. So, they lost a lot of revenue since we left and found another open place a few blocks away. I am usually a larger tipper but I tip for actual service not attitude. UW students, guests and staff go elsewhere. This place...

Brewery: Big Tome City: U District, Seattle WA Brewed on premise: Yep Number of house beer taps: 10 Guest Beer: No, but some ciders Bar seating: 10 Table seating: Yes Patio: Yes Beer garden: No Food: Yes Food Trucks: No Dogs Allowed: No Televisions: 7 Beer to go: Yes Liquor: Yes, full bar Wine: Yes Tony: Absolutely! Why would I come back: The Seattle institution, Big Time Brewery & Alehouse has been a U-District anchor since 1988. One of Washington’s pioneering craft breweries and legendary in the PNW hop movement, Big Time was synonymous with dank, sticky, bitter IPAs, Now offering a wide array of options, including Foggy Stardust NEIPA. Still holding on to the wood forward and vintage signs of the 90's brewpub scene BT is a nostalgic trip back in time, and a genuinely comfortable, well loved pub atmosphere that shuns modern trends. The history is palpable, but the beer is as fresh as ever. Big Time remains a must-visit destination for any beer lover. Still representing an important cornerstone of the city’s brewing...

The bartender would not serve me because I looked too "intoxicated". He then served my friend two drinks even though the bartender knew that my friend was going to give me a beer. My friend even asked me what kind of beer I wanted. For the record I was not intoxicated. My pupils were not dilated and I did not slur my words or any other of the obvious signs of intoxication. My friends were very obviously intoxicated but the bartender had no issue serving them. The beer selection was good, the crowd was good but the service was far from exemplary. I asked three questions and the bartender seemed very put out by the fact that he had to answer these questions. My friends were very aware of the fact that they were way more intoxicated then I was but they were still served. I feel like the staff needs more training in how to spot someone who has had too much. If the staff reads these reviews they will obviously disagree but they would be...

Decided to give it a try based on reviews and proximity to our hotel. Really good food. Somewhat limited beer selection, which is understandable since it's their own brewery, after all. Still a decent list of options on the menu for drinks. My husband ordered a pitcher of their IPA (he liked it) and I had a marionberry beer which was very good. Seat yourself. Walk up to the bar to order food and drinks--they'll bring food to your table when it's ready. Atmosphere is what you might expect for a local pub. Staff was friendly. It wasn't very busy but it was a Monday evening. Overall we enjoyed our visit with one exception. My calzone was done almost 25 minutes after my husband's burger came out (they were ordered at the same time so I'm guessing there was a mix up of some sort). We were given a free drink for the inconvenience. We're visiting from out of town but I'd go back if we lived in the area.

One of the classic University of Washington bars, right in the heart of the Ave. The crowd skews more towards visitors and alumni vs students, but you'll see a range of folks. Great beer brewed on premises, beautiful wood-paneled bar with a brass foot rail, old school wooden tables and chairs, and decorated for the holidays. Large fries $10, pints $7. Old Wooly barley wine on tap for December 2023, 22 oz bottles of it for $15 make great gifts! The Atlas Amber, Coal Creek Porter, and the Old Wooly are all beers they've been brewing since at least the 80s or 90s, so try those classics of American microbrewing.
