So it started out good. It’s a bar. There are no reservations. My friend and I arrived at 430ish no HH. Over two hours we ordered 6 individual glasses of wine and 3-4 dishes full price (wine was 12-16 per glass). My friend had just signed the tab plus a good tip, and we were chatting she had 3/4 a glass of wine left I had to drive. There was open outsider seating but a couple was waiting for open bar seating. A woman who’d come on shift and not served us kept hovering around the table. Finally after a few minutes she did that cringey thing and squats at the table and says “Ladies, lots of people are waiting.” Um we’d only been here two hours ordering the entire time and nog true. The couple could sit outside. It felt icky and transactional given my friend’s drink and obviously this shift person knew we had closed out. It also felt sexist. Would she squat down to men at a bar and ask them to leave with a full drink? If you take reservations and aren’t a bar fine. But she could have waited a few minutes.I get people have to make a living but calling us “ladies” and being shaming like we’re selfish and taking up space and rushing my friend out despite having a glass of wine. Very lame and ungracious despite a several hundred dollar...
Read moreA true hidden neighborhood gem! I would say in all honesty I come here almost once a week (for over a year now) I love it so much. Consistently incredible service AND food. To start, the service is above and beyond - the staff are warm and friendly, and know how to “read the table” to tell whether you’re in a rush or want to relax and hang out for a while. The owner, Michelle, takes the time to greet every customer that comes through the door. And everything (and I mean everything because I’ve tried it all!!) on the menu is delicious, including the fabulous cocktails - you can tell it’s all made with love! I believe Michelle crafts a lot of the food/recipes from scratch and it really shows. Great cozy and hip decor indoors and beautiful outdoor seating as well - the perfect spot for a date night, or to wow friends visiting town. Don’t miss the cake, and check out their brunch as well. Pictured here is the delicious tuna conserva open face sandwich. I have also rarely had an issue getting a table/seat at the bar here which is awesome as well. Can’t say enough good things and hope to see this restaurant continue to be a staple in the neighborhood for many years to come! Thank you to the...
Read moreLiving near Occidental I have been going to the Union most my life. They are a center of the town and good for any occasion. A little pricey as things in small towns tend to be but its worth it. From morning coffee in a small onsite cafe to a candlelit Italian dinner. I often take a light lunch in the garden area just ordering an appraiser as my meal to snack on. If you are on the go stop by and order a pizza, that is what brings me there the most. They do the best pizza in town and if you grab one be sure to get a desert to go with it! My favorite is the chocolate mousse cake, its very rich but be aware these are made with real ingredients so be sure to keep away from heat, and eat it fresh. While you wait check out the building. It is clearly very old presenting hand crafted woodwork and design. Its fun to spot the modifications, renovations, and work-arounds implemented as technology moved on. With a snap-shot of each America decade the building manages to be both rustic and progressive at once with no shortage of...
