Update: Probably should have taken negative reviews more seriously instead of only seeing the positive. Might not be closing up shop…

I was excited for El Catrin to open. We went on a Friday night around the busiest time. Hostess said the wait was going to be an hour so we decided to go to the bar and get a couple beers. They have about 5 beers on draft. Modelo, Panchanga (Sunking), a Rhinegeist, and a couple others. Seating opened up after about 30 minutes which was great. For appetizer we ordered the ceviche and roasted vegetables. Both looked great, but that was about it. Upon first bite we realized that the "lime aioli" was mostly mayonnaise with little to no other flavor, and there was a lot of it on both dishes. The menu didn't list the "aioli" for the ceviche but it did for the vegetables. Another issue was the fact that the avocados were maybe the most unripe that I have ever had at a restaurant. Hard, horrible flavor that made the food taste worse. For entree we ordered the Carne Asada Salad and a Cuban torte. The salad was fine, except for the fact that the steak was not more than Luke warm and it had more of the unripe avocados. The torte was not a traditional torte that you get at a Senór Iguanas restaurant (El Catrin is owned by Senór Iguanas). It was basically a sub sandwich roll, that was nice and soft like a torte is supposed to be, but the ham seemed to be no more than lunch meat. The rest of the filling was good, but like the steak on the salad, the temperature was Luke warm. I really wanted to like the place because there are very little options for outdoor dining and with flair in Sellersburg, but this place needs work. The three main factors were:

Lime aioli is too heavy with the mayo Avocados were hard and unripe Food serving temperature was Luke...

I spent a majority of my childhood growing up in Ensenada in Baja California, and my high school years in the San Diego area. I left the west coast 20 years ago. For the first time since I lived in Mexico and left San Diego, I've finally found a restaurant that serves Mexican food that tastes just like my childhood. I got the fish tacos and they were so delicious I got misty eyed. They brought me right back to the seaside restaurants I remember. The margarita was perfection, and the elote tasted EXACTLY like the ones I used to buy from the street vendors in Mexico. The waiter Armando was wonderful. He was attentive to my every need and genuinely concerned about me enjoying my experience there. He's a real asset to this company. He expressed to me what a great place it is to work, and you can tell. It's a warm atmosphere to eat in. The people working there are happy. The decor is just beautiful and immaculately clean. THIS is what an experience at a Mexican food restaurant should be. Warm, exceptional hospitality, colorfully and tastefully decorated, happy, spicy, and delicious. I live in Minnesota, but travel to the Kentucky/Indiana area several times a year. I'm adding this restaurant to my very short list of favorite restaurants. I'm going to make it a point to stop by and eat here every time I'm in the area. I'm now a big fan!...

This is no longer El Catrin, it is now just another Señor Iguanas. I like Señor Iguanas, the food was good, I believe they're owned by the same people so y'know, it's their restaurant they can change it if they want, but I was very disappointed because I expected the El Catrin menu, and didn't get it. It's also strange to me because presumably they have pretty much the same general ingredients for both menus, so I don't understand why they can't just keep the old one which is frankly more interesting and exciting than the Señor Iguanas menu. It's just disappointing, and to be honest El Catrin was the only reason I was ever in that area, so I don't have much of a reason to go over there anymore. I don't pretend to know why they did this, maybe they had a good reason, but to me it feels like a poor decision, and they should definitely alter the google profile so people know what restaurant they're...

El Catrin is the place to be! The atmosphere is vibrant and fun, and the staff are super friendly. Can’t beat the fresh food! Our food came out super fast, and the ingredients are fresh. We got the vegano burrito, and it was the best vegan burrito I’ve ever had!! Their vegan soy protein was super flavorful, and the toppings are delicious too. The chips and tres salsas are a great appetizer for the table. The salsas range from mild to hot, so there’s something for everyone. The salsa verde and salsa cruda are my personal favorites! They also have really good sweet tea!

First time I've been there as it was recommended by a friend. The menu had some good choices and fair prices. I got the Monterey burrito and black beans. That thing was massive 😳. It was really good and packed a good portion of food. Black beans were good as were the chips and queso. The server was really sweet but I don't think she introduced herself 🤔. She seemed a bit apprehensive with customer service not really engaging and a bit rushed. I did see a gentleman with tattoos engaging with other patrons and was pleased. Anyway, I plan on coming back.

This is absolutely the best Mexican food I've had! The food was so delicious, it melted in my mouth. The Baja Chimi, Fuego Burrito, and the queso is what we had this time, but I will definitely be back to try everything else! Can't forget to mention the DELICIOUS margarita! The servings were large (I had leftovers to take home), the service was exceptional, and the environment was great for families. The only downside is there isn't enough parking when they are really busy (Still enough to make it work though). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!
