If I could give LESS stars I would. Normally we like the food. My husband is having surgery tomorrow so he can not eat after a certain time. He was craving some tacos, so I went by to pick up tacos. We are at the end of our funds, as his medical had taken a toll. Having about $75 bucks in the account for travel to UCSF tomorrow I thought we could spare about $10 for lunch today. Well first the card machine was glitching so the cashier kept taking my chip card in and out of the machine. Then she said it was declined. I pulled up my bank app and they had charged my card until my account was negative. The owner came up and was like, well those charges will fall off in a few days!! I was shocked!! I do not have a few days, i told him that was all the gas money we had!! I was crying and called my bank, and he said the merchant could clear the holds, but my bank could not do anything until they posted. I asked the owner to please clear the holds, he said they will fall off eventually! I explained my situation and he could care less. To boot, they would not even give me the food unless they ran my card again, the card that has no funds available due to the repeated charges!!! They said this happened 3 times today! I am upset, they have put me in a situation to beg for gas money, all for a few tacos. Oh and she even had over charged me for 10 tacos when it was 6 too top it all off! I will never go back, RUDE and unprofessional. As an owner if I cause someone so much distress over a damn $7.50 transaction, I would have called my card company and given my customer the food!...

My family and I have been coming here for YEARS and I can honestly say, they hands down have the best barbacoa & carnitas. Although I will add that somedays their carnitas will taste VERY salty or underseasoned. Today though, they were both very very good.
I have never tried their asada, so I bought a single asada taco and was not a fan at all....it tasted like boiled meat. I don't know how to describe it but if you are looking for amazing asada tacos, this isn't the place to get them. I also ordered to go cups of rice and beans and I was horribly disgusted. The beans and rice both lacked flavor and tasted so so burnt from being in the metal cambros under the heat lamps. The rice was very dry as well and you could see grains of rice that were indeed blackish brown from being burnt to the sides of the pan. The beans also were sitting in there so long that a thick layer was dried on the cambro. Not a good taste at all.
I did order the meat, tortillas & drinks in one transaction and forgot to get the beans and rice and sent my husband. The first cashier was very nice but left on break and the second cashier was very dry and rude. Alfonso's needs to step up the customer service...it's not okay to behave that way to customers just because you are overwhelmed and busy. I was honestly more on the disappointed side today with my visit.
If I return, it will only be for the carnitas & barbacoa early in the AM to avoid upset workers &...
Read moreI had the lunch special. Because it's Lent, I decided to try the Chile Relleno. I judge a restaurant by their rice...Alfonso's didn't have any flavor, and the rice wasn't fluffy. The beans were runny, not like the kind I'm used to making. But, I guess when you're selling for the masses, quality doesn't matter. What I really liked was the nopal salad. This was good, except for the chiles japones that I took out. This is my first time, but I will come back and try a burrito. The Chile Relleno was stuffed with a cheese that could have been melted a little more, too firm. Although, maybe that's how this place makes them, al gusto de ellos. Gracias. They do give you plenty...
