We’re celebrating a milestone birthday for my daughter. No pressure, Chuy’s, you couldn’t handle it, anyway. Our party of ten has been seated for nearly TWENTY minutes and I have no clue who our server is. Fortunately, the gentleman bussing tables is more in tune to the dining room than the waitstaff, hostess, or management. He overheard my displeasure and contacted the hostess stand before I could get there. Thanks, Charles, for paying attention. How does management allow a party of ten to be seated in a separate room, alone, and go unnoticed for this long? Well, I wish you could see the look of disappointment on my daughter’s face as she feels partly responsible because she chose Chuy’s to celebrate. We’re at one star. But wait, it gets better… (/sarcasm) the manager came to our table to apologize. Not just for the terrible service so far but because we have to uproot out table and move across the dining room to another table. We’ve been here an hour and haven’t even placed an order for food. I won’t go into detail about the ADA accommodation that have been replaced with parking for to-go only spots. I’m hearing impaired, as is a my father. Our original table was in a separate dining room and was perfect for the two of us to have a talk. We no longer have that option after being moved. The words “epic sh*t-show” come to mind. I’ve been a Chuy’s customer for over twenty years, longer than they’ve had a store in the SA market. This experience REALLY makes me reconsider my choice and of where my money is spent. There appears to be a lack of accountability and a lack of leadership. The MOD tried to take the blame; falling on his sword for his team. The attempt to make amends, so far, has been an apology and some free queso…I’m underwhelmed, and even that is a stretch. This is such a let down. We received our food a few minutes ago….I’ll update as dinner goes on. Most of the food met or exceeded expectations. The meat on one salad was cold. Not a bit cold, but refrigerated cold and tough. Chris did a pretty good job of servicing the table and recovering from the initial blunder. He was quite attentive and accommodated our needs well. I’m not compelled, at this point, to change the rating from one star. When the experience starts as this one did, recovery isn’t easy. I hope this is passed along to the staff so they can realize the repercussions of their actions and improve upon them. I do, quite sincerely, wish the MOD had stayed engaged longer in our conversation for me to convert to him what I see, as a manager of a totally different but still customer related business. He seemed to be more interested in what saying he had to say in hopes of some forgiveness, than listening to what I might have told him. Some of my best feedback as a manager, comes from someone whose perspective isn’t obstructed by the blinders of what I’ve come to...
Read moreSo, dined here Saturday evening with a group of ladies who haven’t been able to get together for months because of the rolling COVID-19 in the families. 5 of us, food, drinks, dessert planned. Our waiter was good. He was courteous and took our order and brought drinks in a timely manner. Took awhile to get food, but no big deal we wanted to visit. Food delivered we chatting away, and a huge roach crawls up the wall and falls so close to one of the ladies we thought it had gone in her shirt. Lots of scrambling and yelling on our part, another waiter shoots over and smashes it, apologizing. Several minutes later the manager comes to apologize, explaining a water leak caused there to be a hole in wall behind booth and her boss fumigating earlier in the day because of the opportunity to do so, and when we are done they will shut the booth off. Great. Except we get to sit here still. We all scoot away from the side with supposed hole and attempt to finish our meal. Not even a few minutes pass and another huge roach shoots across the top of the booth, and a table near us says one also shot across the floor. Needless to say we jumped out of booth again, and are finished with attempting to eat. Manager walks over eyes rolling, does not offer another table and just shrugs saying sorry. Bar had open area, it wasn’t offered. We walked passed two booths and an empty table, also not offered. Back room, empty also not offered. So we are standing in the bar, waiting for our checks. Our waiter, bless his heart was trying to smooth it over. All meals were comped, but we only found this out in trying to check out- nobody said a word like “we are going to make it right and comp your meals for this mess” literally nothing. It felt more like a comp to get us out from “making a scene” which is disappointing. Here’s the thing, if this roach activity is in the dining area, what is going on in the kitchen?? Where we sat shared a wall with...
Read moreI’ve been coming to Chuy’s for a while now, but after two back-to-back bad experiences, it’s clear things have taken a serious turn for the worse—especially when it comes to service. Our experience at Chuy’s yesterday was so bad, it deserves to be called out — especially because it’s not the first time.
Our server, Jaslyn, was hands-down the worst server we’ve ever had. She showed up long enough to take our order and drop off drinks, then again to drop off our food — and that was it. She vanished for over 30 minutes, didn’t check on us once, and left us sitting with empty glasses halfway through the meal. Not a single refill. It wasn't even THAT busy at 5:30pm but she was nowhere to be seen to get her attention.
When she finally reappeared — 10 minutes after we were clearly finished eating — she casually came by and asked if we “needed anything,” as if she hadn’t just abandoned our table the entire time. Yes, Jaslyn — we needed service. We needed drinks. We needed basic attention that any halfway decent server would’ve provided. But you were nowhere to be found.
What makes this worse is that it’s becoming a pattern at this location. Last week, we had almost the exact same experience. That time, I had to physically walk to the bar just to get a drink. The waitress had the nerve to say, “I could’ve gotten that for you.” Really? Then why didn’t you?
Chuy’s used to be our regular go-to Friday night spot. My wife and I have been going there almost every Friday for the past few months. Now it feels like you’re lucky to get one drink and a plate of food, and then you’re on your own. It shouldn’t feel like a gamble whether your server will actually do their job.
If Jaslyn is the standard of service now, it’s no wonder this place is going downhill fast. We’ll be looking elsewhere for our Friday nights...
