I'd read the great reviews around Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Company and I was looking forward to my initial visit to this business. Today (Sunday, September 22, 2013) was a dark, gloomy and rainy day - a perfect excuse to drive from Port Angeles to Sequim (a 38-mile roundtrip from home) to indulge in - what promised to be - an exquisite cup of coffee. I was also looking for some quality reading time and, perhaps, a pick-up SCRABBLE game!
I double-checked Rainshadow's Facebook page, Saturday evening - 09/21/13; this is what was noted -- Closed until tomorrow 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.
I arrived for my "introductory" visit to Rainshadow Coffee Roasting shortly after noon - to find a sign on the door announcing NEW HOURS . . shorter hours it appears . . and CLOSED on SUNDAY! Needless to say, I was disappointed.
In retrospect, I should have called first . . but the hours are listed on Yelp, on Facebook and on the Rainshadow website. Unfortunately, the hours reflected - in all three locations - were not the hours posted on the door. SIGH
I didn't want the the drive to Sequim to be a total waste of time and gasoline . . Hurricaine Coffee Company is right around the corner. There I found a very comfortable chair and the opportunity to enjoy two cups of coffee and six chapters of my book.
I'm going to cross-post this review to the website and to Rainshadow Coffee Roasting's Facebook page (Urbanspoon's page reflects the Sunday closure information - I failed to check Urbanspoon). Hopefully, it will encourage those who do not live in Sequim, to call and double-check operating hours before making the trip.
On a positive note, the website gives clear and concise directions to the business - that was a plus. One star given to acknowledge the good...
Read moreThis seems to be a popular place, but my visit today left me with a sour taste.
I ordered a short dark drip for my husband, and a double tall nonfat latte for myself. The cashier poured the drip and handed it to my husband. Then she marked my order on the cup for me, but I noticed that it appeared to be a small (8 oz.) cup, rather than the large (12 oz,) that I had ordered. No big deal. She marked a 12 oz. cup for me, and placed it on the divider for the barista.
Inexplicably, by the time the drink has been poured, it was once again in a small 8 oz. cup. I informed the barista that I had ordered a large, and she started to argue with me, saying that she had heard me place the order. I've been ordering double tall nonfat lattes for decades, always using those words. If I ever get Alzheimer's, certainly one of the last coherent phrases left in my brain will be, "double tall nonfat latte". She re-poured the drink — thank you — but then informed me that next time it would be 65 cents more. Price was not the issue. Taking the order correctly and delivering it correctly without added snark became the issue.
Everyone has a bad day once in awhile. From the other reviews, I can only suspect that this was one of those rare times. Next time through town, we'll probably drop by again. But still, this...
Read moreI went there with a friend to get coffee and I'm not really a coffee house person. I just have coffee at home but my friend wanted to do this so I said okay. The person that waited on us behind the counter really could use a class on how to improve their customer service skills and be friendly. This employee didn't smile didn't ask how we were didn't suggest anything just stood there waiting to take an order and that was it. I wouldn't hire this person and I think she needs to improve her skills. When it was my turn to order I was having a little difficulty deciding and was trying to read the board and she never made a suggestion and fact she stood right in the way where I couldn't see where the coffee drinks were so I asked her to move and she looked really pissed off that I did that and I didn't care. So we didn't give her a tip. The atmosphere was okay I really didn't think it was that hot of a place. I would have been just as happy to get a cup of coffee from elsewhere and...
