This could have been so much better. A bunch of small things added up to the result that I don't expect to come back. First, half a basket of chips that was gone in a few minutes Second, being our first time here, we didn't know that the salsa was serve yourself, as the waitress didn't bother to tell us. So, being hungry, we started eating dry chips expecting salsa to show up any second. Then, when the half basket was gone, I had to ask 3 times for some more chips, to go with the salsa we found after seeing someone else carrying some tiny plastic togo type ramekins from the back. (Why tiny plastic throwaway, instead of decent sized salsa bowls?) Ordering: No ala carte anything. My friend, who it was her birthday, wanted the tamale plate and a single taco, sorry, no single taco allowed. Really? "No, the kitchen will yell at me" the waitress said. It's a mexican joint and you can't order a single taco, only the 2 taco platter. My order: burrito platter with grilled chicken. menu gives an option of "grilled veggies" for $3. Onion, peppers and mushrooms. Can I get it minus the mushrooms (since they are not a vegetable anyway and I hate mushrooms)? Nope, all or nothing. I make a joke about burger king where special orders don't upset them, she doesn't get it. Food comes while still waiting for more chips that I'd asked for 3 times. Finally I get up to go to the bar for more chips. It would have been easier to get a decent full basket to begin with. So, the food was just OK, not great, there was a quarter sized chicken bone in my burrito and the chicken was dry and way overcooked. So, this makes us sound like a couple really picky folks, but really, we are not, it was again, just a bunch of little things about the service and food that kept piling up. They just didn't seem to care about the customers wants, just what is easy for them. The prices were ok, we spent $40 for the meal and 2 sodas. The selection of salsa was excellent and they were very good, so I guess that is why the name is "Jose's famous salsa", not "Jose's fine Mexican food and great service" There are better places around, this...
Read more0 stars if I could. The “server” was very dry and unprofessional, first, she totally ignored us once we walked in, when finally got her attention we ordered our food and when she brought the plates she spilled the sauce (sauce that we had to stand and go to grab it by ourselves) on the table and she just bring a bunch of napkins to us (to clean up her mess she did by ourselves too?) not even saying a sorry or a word. We didn’t see anything to her because we were so hungry and unpleasant enough to make a bigger deal. We went to this place because of our Airbnb host recommend this place as “one of the best places to eat” I can’t imagine how are the other places around. Anyway. We just want to recommend that when you bring the appetizer you have to bring plates on the side to share it something that she didn’t do. But the most important advice is that you have a better people taking care of your clients more humans and professional if she doesn’t like Mexican culture or people what is she doing there.? We like to leave a 20% tip every restaurant we go and this wasn’t the exception. We know about service and professionalism. My siblings work in the industry and they really know how to give great service and no matter what. Worst experience ever here...
Read moreThe only reason for any stars is the salsa, which my partner loves and uses exclusively. He likes the salsa so much that he talked me into trying Jose’s out for dinner. I ordered the chicken fajita burrito and he ordered the pork burrito with green sauce - to go. When we asked I the pork was shredded, the gal on the phone said she didn’t know ( nor did she try and find out). That should have been a clue as what was to come. We specifically asked for no lettuce and they added it anyway and it was inside the burritos, so completely soggy. His burrito had barely any pork and mine had only a couple pieces of chicken. It was mostly dry beans and rice for both of us. I would have expected lots of green pepper, onions and chicken, but nope 👎🏾. They also were so kind as to throw random broken chips in the to go bag, but not in their own bag and with a container on top of them.
Follow up September 12, 22: I ended up reluctantly dining in at Jose’s when I had a visitor in town and dining options were limited. I was glad to have been able to give the place a second chance. We had a salad and quesadilla and shared both. They were good 👍. I’d give 3 to 4 stars on food and service...
