Yamato Express — Restaurant in Shelby

I wish I could rate this negative! I never had the worse customer service in my life! I'm usually not the type to give bad reviews either because I know it's hard sometimes working with the public, but my experience was awful! I ordered an extra shrimp sauce, cashier repeated the order correctly.. Well girl brings out the food, my husband's was wrong & I notice I'm missing my extra shrimp sauce so I let her know. When she brings it back, she has to bring the receipt to show me I didn't pay for it & went over the entire thing. I was like ok she repeated it so I thought she charged it, but when I get done eating, I will come slide my card once again for $1.. She then proceeded to tell me that she can adjust it if I just tell her the name on the card.. So she did then comes back & makes me stop eating once again to sign the paper then waste more of my time explaining everything once again. Plus the food wasn't that great as it usually is, but that's okay because if they're that inconsiderate to people trying to enjoy their meal, I will not return. It's not like I was trying to get out of paying, I would have oncd I was done...

They get one star only because the food was warm. We have preferred the Shelby Yamato's over the Kings Mtn restaurant, but the last four times we've gone to eat in Shelby, the big shrimp were overcooked and tough. (The KM location big shrimp tastes like they boil it first and then heat it on the flat-top.) Also, there must be a shortage of soy sauce in Shelby, because the rice had none. I had specifically asked when I ordered for the cook to be sure they put enough soy sauce on the rice, due to lack of it on previous recent visits there. When it was brought to the table, I pointed out the rice was still white and was told it was fried rice. I said I had asked for enough soy sauce in the rice to color it and was told they can't recook the rice once it's on the plate. She said, "There's the soy sauce on the table" and walked off. The bottle was sticky and gunked up on the outside. Completely nasty to touch. I won't eat there again. It used to be so good. If I want Japanese, I'll drive to Forest City. They have a great Japanese...

I absolutely love Yamatos japenese express! I always order an extra shrimp sauce because it is addicting! I probably wouldnt eat it without shrimp sauce if i did not have to because thats what i crave for is the sauce! Now to be honest the steak is on the tough side but mostly i order chicken & shrimp which is amazing together! The drive through is horrible especially when backed up in business & it is a tight fitting spot to try to drive your vehicles through especially a bigger vehicle. Thats honesty and it would help if that would be fixed for us & the business. I rate yamatos as a #1 japenese restaurant in shelby compared to red wok & other competitors. Its addicting! I dont know their secrets to the sauce but boy it is delicious! I actually ate there today & its delicious as always!
