Wow! Having grown up in St Louis, went to college outside Kansas City, spent considerable time visiting family and friends in Texas, Tennessee, and Kentucky I feel confident stating that I know what good BBQ is.
Smokin’ Outlaw knocked my socks off. I read the reviews and expected decent food, at time of review the restaurant has a 4.8/5. However, I didn’t expect it to be just this dang good.
I ordered the 2 meat combo with the Brisket, Pulled Pork, Bacon Mac n Cheese, and the Smoked Cobbler. The Brisket gave me the biggest surprise, I haven’t had any good brisket in over a year since moving to Colorado. That changed today. Perfectly moist, fatty, with a good texture compliment in a firm and flavorful crust. The seasoning was phenomenal with a perfect mix of savory and spice. The Pork reminded me of smoking at home with my dad. Moist, juicy, smoky, full of that delicious pork flavor, and it was well pulled to boot. The Mac N Cheese was solid with great cheesy flavor and a punch of pork from the bacon that made up a good quarter of the dish. The Cobbler turned this into a two superstar meal. This was the best cobbler I’ve ever had, perfectly sweet with a great amount of flaky crust that managed to sop up just the right amount of peach syrup.
On top of the fantastic food, the service was kick-butt too. My food came out in 2-3 minutes, the young lady at the register was polite and responsive. After taking the first bite I managed to snag the owner to tell him how good I thought the food was. We had a short conversation and he was nothing but thankful and down to earth for the praise and the opportunity he’s been given.
I WILL be back and more...
Read moreThe food was good, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the ambiance inside is appropriately bbq/meat themed (see attached photo of the "vegan recovery center" paraphernalia. Love it, too funny!).
Don't be fooled by the not so great area and pseudo strip mall it's located in. I actually drove down from downtown Denver as I have been struggling to find a good bbq place near there.
Everything we got was tasty and can't go wrong with any of the sides. The portions were more than adequate, including the sides, especially as a lot of places these days seem to have gotten on the bandwagon of serving their sides in those ridiculously small condiment containers. Just laughable when they do that and makes you feel like you were way over charged for what you get as well.
I also like how they just have two bbq sauce options, one sweet and one spicy (I really liked the sweet one), instead of the overwhelming number of different sauces other places always seem to offer and have no idea which to pick from and always seem to pick wrong.
Although I do primarily eat vegan as I just happen to love fruits and vegetables, etc., I also love to have good meat/fish as well. And opposite of me, I have a friend who is a devout meat eater and hard core anti vegetable/fruit person who I may just get that T-shirt for as well as bring her to this place...
Read moreS.O.K our favorite place for BBQ! However it is not the outrageously delicious food that keeps us coming back. About 6 months ago my wife and I had a craving for brisket and my 22 year old son who is autistic came along with us. My son is the sweetest person you will ever meet but unfortunately due to being socially awkward he has some difficulty being out in public. He is often mistaken for being homeless and has issues communicating when under stress and has mistakenly been thought to be on drugs. While waiting for our food my son was seated at a table separate from my wife and I. As he often does when in public he had his eyes closed and appeared to be napping. The owner of S.O.K. took notice of this and without any judgment or prejudice approached my son and asked if he was okay and if he needed any help. When my son answered that he was OK the owner asked if he was hungry and offered to make him some food. It goes without saying we need more of this type of compassion in our communities. Thank You to everyone at S.O.K. Brandon you are a pillar of our community....
