I have eaten McAlister's Deli since 2005. I typically order the exact same thing every single time. Because of this, I know what/how much should be included. I ordered to go, but from inside the restaurant because I've had issues ordering online--multiple times. I ordered my ultimate nachos no chilli sub rotel, extra of all the veggies except for the avocado, and I made sure my order was heard and understood. For being relatively simple, it tends to get messed up sometimes. The girls working up front were very sweet and helpful. THEY did their jobs to the best of their abilities. However, as tends to happen at this location, my requests were ultimately ignored. Attached is a photo of the "extra" veggies I ordered. Also pictured is the brown/black, mushy, bitter-tasting avocado. The avocado is actually what prompted this comment. The first time round, it was equally disgusting so I simply returned to the restaurant and asked for some that was slightly better looking. The woman in the kitchen (pinkish/reddish hair, middle aged with a sour demeanor) stated quite loudly that the rot was "normal" after exposure to air. Yes, I know avocado turns brown. This was black/brown mush and not worth the money I paid. I was given an equally disgusting avocado as a replacement, pictured here. Rude comments regarding my lack of knowledge in the behavior of avocado continued to ensue from the kitchen. Since I was already in getting the avocado, I mentioned that I had not recieved my extra veggies that were listed on my ticket. The attached picture is apparently what passes for extra here. The cup was quite literally slung through the window to the poor cashier who was trying to help me. Normally I would just ignore and move on but this has happened to me repeatedly at this location. I also happen to know that this is not how employees are trained to handle customer service, because I have asked what the policies are procedures are. This is my least favorite location and I only eat here when I cannot reasonably drive to the McKinney store. I would mention that if you've experienced issues here, McKinney is far higher quality and offers much better service. I've known the manager there since he started with the company and he truly cares about his customers--something we apparently do not warrant at...
Read moreI've been a long time fan of McAllisters Deli. They won me over after several occasions where I'd measure them against Panera and Jason's. When I moved to Durant in 2011, I knew I'd miss a lot about the DFW metroplex, with McAllisters being at the top of that long list.
Hearing they were bringing one to Sherman, I couldn't wait to try it out. I've noticed in my time in this great area that new businesses have many challenges; tight-knit communities who love tradition, expectations of perfection, and vocal critics. A colleague had a chance to eat at the newly opened site before I did, and her opinion was mediocre at best. Simply put - I was worried
My first visit was during the middle of the week in the early afternoon. I found the place well staffed, and my specific and enthusiastic order led the cashier to remark that I must be a fan. The food here was as delicious as any of the others I'd eaten at. It was a great experience.
I've been back a half dozen times, and the only time I could honestly say I noticed anything less the excellent was during a major lunch time rush. I have to say after being a patron at many of these restaurant, the Sherman's store layout is very odd. Traffic patterns converge awkwardly and the ordering counter t the back with the takeout was not good planning in my opinion. However the store employees have made the best of a less than ideal layout.
I also wish this site had outside seating - they had adequate space on the lot if they'd considered it, and North TX/Southern OK residents enjoy the option. All in all, thanks McAllisters for joining the area and keep up...
Read moreThis was a wonderful restaurant when it opened, but a recent visit was quite alarming. On a Saturday afternoon, there were many empty tables, but the line awaiting service was a long one. Such can happen, true, but it quickly became apparent that poor management was to blame. While there were as many as four people behind the service counter much of the time, only one person was working the service line, for the most part. The apparent manager-on-duty, a woman, was involved with another cashier in trying to rectify a problem with a customer who was previously served. Another employee appeared to just be standing around. Meanwhile, the waiting line grew. From fourth in line, before we reached the front, only one person was still behind a cash register. Clearly, one person could have handled the dissatisfied customer, but two remained involved for a long period. The manager appeared to have no concern for the waiting customers, and that is unacceptable. By the time we were served, there were five people behind the counter, including two who weren't there previously. Maybe they were on break, but again, this is poor management. I ask the owner to please not let this deli fail because of poor service. It's too common a story. And this is such a good...
