First time dining here. Service was quick and friendly. Made sure we had everything we needed with a smile. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. Barbecue tray with one side and half a smoked chicken with two sides. The chicken which fell off the bone with crispy skin. Hushpuppies were just right, crispy outside and soft inside. They come with every plate. Tartar sauce was homeade...thick and well flavored. The Barbecue sauces were amazing. We tried all three - eastern, western, and hot. Corn nuggets cooked well. The portions were large enough that we took home the rest for dinner.
The only complaint I have - I asked if the potato salad was made in house by them. I was told yes it was. I ran a restaurant most my life with my grandparents. I was also a professional server for 10 plus years. The potato salad came on the food truck. The potatoes were all perfectly cubed, treated with the chemicals to keep them white and firm, and the flavor was exactly what you get when you buy a container of potato salad at the grocery store. I was a little disappointed bc I was looking forward to some homeade potato salad.
Over all, it is a great little restaurant. Food wasn't over priced. Lots of things to choose from on the menu. Lots of daily specials. We will definitely be going back to try another of...
Read moreSo Boss Hog changed management and/or ownership sometime in 2018. We’ve lived in Sherrills Ford about four years and had an entirely unsatisfactory experience at Boss before the change.
What a difference!
Don’t get me wrong. My observation of the old Boss was a very popular joint that, based on the look of the place-inside and out—was not appealing. I guess the BBQ was good, we didn’t think so, but it was a no frills place.
The new Boss hasn’t changed in size or shape but it’s way more appealing in its appearance. It’s still a no frills BBQ joint but it doesn’t inspire apprehension walking in the door.
By the way, the food is excellent; the Shrimp PoBoy is loaded with shrimp, the Pork and Chicken are top notch. Service is quick and friendly.
Here’s to Boss Hog, fine dining it isn’t, fine food is...
Read moreLove the food I have ate at this restaurant since I was a child. But lately customer service has become extremely slack. Coming from someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for at least ten years. It’s very upsetting when you call to make an order and people pick up the phone and sit it down to make it stop ringing. This has happened multiple times in the last few weeks. I understand being thirty minutes to closing and not wanting to take anymore orders but you could at least let someone know. COVID has hit small businesses hard and if you want people to support your business instead of going to larger restaurants you have to be willing to take the money and treat customers...
