The whole meal I felt like we were an annoyance. It appeared that we had disrupted any plans the staff may have had that did not include waiting on the clientele. The place was close to empty yet the staff would pass by your table as if asking them to stop long enough to take a drink or food order would keep them from the multitudes of waiting, starving customers. "How dare you, a lowly customer interrupt whatever we think is important to us". Our server (hardly a fitting title as he barely accomplished the minimum amount of service) Paul M was rude at best and definitely not wanting to be anywhere close to working, earned a spot on my list of worst customer facing experiences. I suggest he reflect on his career choice and evaluate if he should continue to fake interest in being of service. Had I not wanted to penalize the rest of the staff I would have left no gratuity. A gratuity earned, not automatic because someone gave you a pen and pad to take an order.
The food was marginal. Clams that were dead and unopened. Pasta served in a huge bowl of watery sauce. Over cooked ball of pasta sold under the name of Angel Hair - must have been a "bad hair day". Tip of the day: drain the pasta a little so sause will stick better. The meat was gray. Paul M had only a poor FU response when we told him about them clams that had not opened. Typically you should get your meal replaced or reduced as eating closed clams can make you extremely ill. Either Paul M should be taught about sea food or maybe he should listen to what people tell him...
Paul M started clearing plates and drinks without asking permission or even if we were finished eating. One member of our party even asked if they were closing and had some place to go thinking we had over stayed our time and they were trying to close the restaurant. Of course that was not the situation, it was just more of experience that reinforced Trees would never be visited by any of our party again. Paul M picked up my signed credit slip while we finishing up, a ride gesture at best, as if to check to see how much we tipped.
As we left the restaurant we all turned to each other and shook our heads in wonder. What had we just experienced? We agreed that this was the worst dinning experiences we have had. The $145 that was paid to be fed and treated with such disdain could have been spent so much better.
Should you still want to spend $ at Trees after reading this please ask for Paul M to be your server. You might as well get the full...
Read moreMy husband and I had a good experience at this restaurant in 2014, so I took my parents there for lunch today. Although there were only four people occupying one table when we arrived, we had to wait several minutes to get a table. There was food on my chair that I had to brush off before sitting down. The server gave us menus and did not come back to take our orders for nearly ten minutes and never asked if we needed something other than water to drink. I asked for a coffee and he subsequently brought out two cups and gave them to my parents. He forgot to bring me sugar, which I had to ask for, and my mother asked for a straw three times before another server finally brought her one. It took thirty minutes to get the food and only two other people arrived for lunch after us (and had a different server), so the restaurant was by no means crowded. Our server was not overtly rude (at least not until just before we left), but was very short with us and not professional or friendly. He was extremely slow to respond to requests and was inattentive, such as never offering a refill on my coffee. The ladies' bathroom had a stall with no toilet seat covers or toilet paper and was in general not very clean for a restaurant that had just opened. When my mother asked if the manager was available, our server identified himself as the manager. When told the ladies' room needed some attention, he responded, "Perfect" in a sarcastic tone and said he hadn't been in the ladies bathroom yet that day. This was by far the worst service I have experienced in a restaurant in a great while and I was embarrassed to have taken my parents from out-of-town to this eatery. I empathize with overworked servers who are stressed, but this man had only two tables to serve and had no cause to be so neglectful of his customers (and he clearly lacks management skills). The food was okay and the portions were big, but I will not be returning to Tree's or recommending this...
Read moreJust leaving the restaurant feeling a bit unsettled. I have been here one other time and had the same "server" who is the owner. The first time I was here it was a hot day and the inside of the restaurant was very warm. The owner was our waiter and he would take tons of smoke breaks, take a very long time to get back to our table. During both trips here service was slow and there were many times we would have to track down the owner/server ourselves to get anything. We were there for along time before our order was taken and then another long period of time waiting for food. One of our dishes came out cold, the other dishes were either way too big of servings or some were good sized. Seafood pasta is served in a bowl twice the size of the actual serving of food when they should be matched in size. Pricing for food did not match overall quality of the food. My Grilled Shrimp Pesto Pasta was $17 and I easily could have gotten the same quality dish (if not better) for $13 elsewhere. When it came to the service I it was completely unprofessional. Drinks were never refilled, the owner/server would sit in a back table and do paper work instead of having an actual server tend to the tables. When we were ready to leave we had to flag down a younger gentleman to get us boxes after waiting for 15 minutes. Then we had to wait another 15 minutes to get our check to pay which I had to turn around and watch the owner/server sitting with his hands behind his head talking to a female waitress for an extended period of time before noticing we were waving at him. He then walked over and made the excuse that he was over booked on Easter and had to figure it out so he was taking a long time. I would understand that IF I hadn't just watched him lounging around and talking just 25 feet away from us. We were obviously trying to leave and he was continuing to make different excuses and conversation instead of giving us our check. Needless to say, will not...
