We arrived early for a 6:00 reservation, and were seated immediately at a remote corner by the oven. First thought was concern about the server finding us promptly. Our water glasses were filled before getting a grasp of the menus. I normally don't drink water in Shreveport. If you live here, you know why. To my surprise, the water did not have the dirt like taste associated with tap water in Shreveport. Not missing a beat, our server arrived, introduced himself, and took our drink orders. He promptly returned with the cocktails and took our appetizer order, which was a dozen grilled oysters and fried calamari. The oysters were small and a little rocky, but don't miss the Calamari. It comes with two sauces, one was a superb remoulade and the other a thick tomato sauce, not unlike a savory tomato soup, just thicker. The calamari is the best I've eaten. I will order the calamari every time I eat here. We took a while deciding an entre. I finally told the server to pick mine, exclusive of the octopus. It may be excellent, but I can't get passed the thought of tentacles attaching to my uvula. My partner ordered scallops. My server looked at me and let me know that was his choice for me but would choose something else. He left the table, not informing us what my entre would be. I was thrilled! How exciting! I ended up an evening special. It was sea brim with a pistachio crust atop pureed potatoes. It was outstanding. The scallops were hands down, the best I've ever eaten. Normally, restaurants in Shreveport will disappoint me one way or another, be it service, food or drink quality, or environment. I have no complaints with Zuzul. If you are a local or just visiting, don't miss this one. I give my highest...
Read moreMy husband and I dined at Zulu’s for our anniversary dinner on March 29th 2024.
First let me start by saying this place is a diamond in the rough (Shreveport)! From the ambience, to the food, the drinks and hands down probably one of the best dining service experiences we have encountered in a long time.
To start we had the shrimp ceviche, it was so fresh and full of flavor- served with tortilla chips, our taste buds were in heaven.
I had the Oaxacan from the cocktail menu which is a mezcal old fashioned type of drink- the smoky notes of the mezcal really came through and worked deliciously in this drink- definitely recommend to the old fashioned fans.
For the main course, my husband had the 60 day aged ribeye, I had the pistachio crusted fresh catch, which was halibut the evening we were there. We were both blown away by how perfect and flavorful everything on our plate were, it was hard to not eat every last bite because it was just so so delicious. Literally perfect
Upon bringing our check, our waitress wished us happy anniversary, and left us a gift- a chocolate soufflé tart - omg, it was rich, silky smooth, not too overly sweet, and was topped with fresh whipped cream. We both thought that was a really thoughtful (and omg delicious) touch.
Last but not least our waitress was phenomenal, she was attentive, personable, knowledgeable, and we never felt rushed- she genuinely seemed to enjoy what she does, and was happy to answer any questions we had- which makes for a beautiful and refreshing dining experience.
If I could give 10 stars I would, we thoroughly enjoyed our the entire dining experience, and we can’t wait for the next special occasion so we can treat...
Read moreWe liked it! This place was recommended by some friends that used to live in Shreveport. So we were finally able to take the drive over there and try it out. I ordered the shrimp and fish ceviche, and the grilled salmon salad. I wanted the shrink and grits but for health reasons I decided on the salad. I wasn’t disappointed. It was my first time having ceviche so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I am only going by my preferences. With that being said, I appreciated how fresh everything was but I thought the tomatoes overpowered the shrimp and fish. It was also more tangy than I like. But if you are familiar with it and know it’s supposed to be this way then you will love it. I loved my salad. The mixture of ingredients worked well together and I loved the contrast of the sweet pecans and salty salmon. I would definitely order that again. Hubby ordered the charbroiled oysters and the shrimp and grits. I am not a fan of oysters so I didn’t try them, but he said repeatedly that he loved them. I did take a little taste of his grits and let me tell you honey, it was amazing. Our waiter was awesome too and I loved the atmosphere. Zuzul is a great...
