I see a lot of people complaining about the prices here. It's coastal baja style food. It's not sold on every street corner like the rest of the tex-mex places here. It's basically just healthy, delicious food with an awesome bar and surprisingly delicious dessert (the baja rock slide). Their ceviche is amazing, with the perfect amount of fresh chilies and wild caught seafood. Their Pacific Rim Yellowfin tacos were so good that my wife (who's not big on sushi) wouldn't even let me try the sauce on her tacos because she ate everything. Their yellowfin tuna is sushi grade and is seared to perfection. You can tell that they buy quality and provide quality. The portions are larger than any other place in town and they make their tortillas fresh in the kitchen on a huge mechanical press---for each order. It is a little more expensive than most tex-mex places, but you can taste the difference in their food. It's kind of what you're looking for when you buy freshly made food---a flavor and satisfaction that you couldn't duplicate on your own at home, and, you would still pay about the same or more as what you pay at a great restaurant like this. I dine here two times a week,...
Read moreI cannot help to notice how some snowflakes melt away at any counter comment to their otherwise hyper critical banter like "shiloh". At either location, you'll find exceptional food, margaritas, fish tacos, a well trained staff and an owner who cares about what he's doing. Don Juanz supports it's community efforts. Long before it was trendy, Don Juanz was using local, state and US food sources before anyone else. Organic, gluten free, vegetarian, farm to table or whatever other trend is out there is old hat here. They started this way in 2006 and have kept the quality coming...

One star is lost because I think the food is just slightly overpriced for what it is. The food is good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s nothing to write home about. The flavors are basic and nothing really pops. I mostly go for the margs if I’m being honest. But here we have a prime example of a restaurant on the ‘Shreveport curve’. Good for the city, but this place would not survive in any other town.
Bottom line- 4/5. One of the...
