Beware of this place if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies of any kind as they do not take it seriously . Had several good experiences here but it seems to be under new management and new wait staff as well, and today’s experience was absolutely awful and borderline bizarre. Brought my 91 year old grandmother here with me today as I have in the past and ordered her salmon, but instead of all the accompaniments and sides and dressings I asked the server to have it prepared totally plain grilled with a side of plain French fries instead (my grandmother has severe dietary restrictions and can only eat very plain or she will be very sick , I explained this to the server)The server said fine and went and placed our order . When our food came out , my grandmother was given a bite sized portion of salmon, I asked the server why and what happened and the server stated that is the “side of salmon”. I told her I did not order the side I ordered the full portion and have no problem paying for whatever it is . She said she would have to get the manager . The manager came over , who the server told me was new , and said it wouldn’t be a problem that she would get her the full size portion of salmon plain grilled . About 2 minutes later the same piece of salmon arrived on our table but this time covered in big chunks of garlic . I said please I ordered this plain grilled my grandmother will get sick and stated that is the exact same piece of salmon that was just sent back . The manager seemed confused . I asked her for a box for my salad and the check and stated that I would take my grandmother somewhere else to eat . She insisted a new piece of salmon would be out in a couple minutes, I insisted that would be impossible and to please not try to serve my grandmother the same piece of salmon after wiping garlic off. The manager said “oh ok I will make sure it’s a new piece”. As someone who works in food service I am appalled that after explaining it would make her sick several times that I had to be the one to explain to the manager that just wiping the garlic off is NOT sufficient for food allergies . I tried to be as patient as possible and about 20 minutes later a new piece of salmon came out . I asked for the bill yet again and let my grandmother eat the salmon . The bill arrived and we were charged $40 for the salmon ( which was completely plain and very very small ) and an extra $5 dollars for the French fries (even though she didn’t receive any of the sides the salmon came with ). Also you would have thought maybe the manager would have taken it off the bill after making a 91 year old wait 50 minutes for a of plain grilled salmon. Mind you the manager NEVER came back over to our table to make sure the final piece of salmon was ok or that we were ok. I paid the check and tipped 20 percent without hesitation, but for me it’s the principal. It’s disappointing because my grandmother and I have had such good experiences here in the past but obviously under the new management the service has gone way downhill . A warning to anyone with dietary restrictions, do not eat here as they tried to serve my 91 year old grandmother the same piece that had been cooked in garlic . She would have been very ill. I have been a waitress for 20 years and I would never dream of doing something like this . Very scary . Avoid at all costs if you have...
Read moreCame in for a late lunch and place was empty except for 3 other tables. We were barely greeted while a gal employee at front entrance was more interested in what she was eating than us being there. We were shown to our table by a fellow holding menus who seemed to share same lack of enthusiasm as his door partner and holding menus was an arduous tiring chore. Waitress took our order and forgot the bread she offered us to go with soup. Chicken soup was served as if it was consomme institution style; a cup worth in a bowl or a barely full laddle, rather than using the bowl size as measure, soup was acceptable. The chicken sandwich I had, the meat I found it to be on the tough side making biting through sandwhich difficult to cut with teeth and once you bit into it not much taste in the meat, if not for the balsamic vinaigrette that imparted its vinagry taste, it tasted bland, the salad paired with sandwhich was more of a touch of frisee decorative effort more a garnish than a "salad". One note that spoiled our visit was observing apparently a visitor known to staff walk in from the outside and serve themselves a drink scooping ice with their glass directly into ice with one hand without using an ice scoop and disturbing as well a young server over by the soda dispenser area where all the glassware and ice tea carafe & coffee presses are kept & drinks prepared, the gal picked up a black industrial type Cintas floor runner and began hitting the floor with bottom edge length wise open to dislodge dirt particles and dust from runner, then she rolled it and proceeded to continue hitting floor with rolled mat as if attempting to shake off all debris to clean mat in place, then removed it and swept with a broom what had come off the entire runner. This is a very unusual and unclean practice within the confines of a restaurant and more so in an area where drinks are prepared/dispensed as when disturbed in the forceful fashion as she was apparently taught to do, as any shaking or dropping forcefully disperses a cloud of unacceptable floor dust left by shoe soles on runner which should be left undisturbed on runner rather than forcing it off of runner and allowing it to be dispersed and float about in an area where coffee, tea and drinks are prepared and dispensed. This is a practice that I am sure is not BOH acceptable as most restaurants would shake off dust off runners outside their back door rather than inside while patrons are still consuming food and grill...
Read moreDjeet is a casual upscale restaurant located in The Grove where you can have lunch and dinner before or after shopping. The decor is very open and they have this shoji screen between the waiting area and the patrons eating.
I had heard the hype. I even read an news article, the owner sources locally grown vegetables and herbs for his restaurant. Everything sounded perfect and I couldn't wait to go there and have lunch with my bestie. We arrived at 12:00 pm when the lunch crowd was next to nil. We were seated by the window and felt it was as good as outdoor eating. Our waitress Gabriela came handed out the menus and the Wednesday's Specials menu. Everyday, they hand out a different Specials menu in addition to their regular menu for lunch. I do not know if they do the same for dinner so this review is solely based on lunch. After ordering, we looked around and remarked about their wooden sculpture. A manager (?) happen to be within earshot explained the owner had actually visited Bali and brought that back with him. The owner definitely loves nature and wood because the decor had wooden accents adorning the walls. He also had this stunning starburst sun chandelier over this natural round shellac wood table that was simply stunning.
Finally our calamari salads came and we dove right in. While it was visually appealing, as we were eating it, we both looked at each other and said it had too much dressing. The lemon caper vinaigrette simply overwhelmed the salad. Secondly the calamari was soggy due to the amount of given dressing. Thirdly, the calamari were cut very thin and the coating made it look more substantial. For a $16 salad, this salad was underwhelming. It was just average and a thus, disappointing. I couldn't find our waitress and she didn't come back for quite a while to even check to see how the salads were. Since we were both ravenous, we just ate as much as we could. I should mention they offer no bread as starters.
After we finished our lunch, it was 1:00 pm and the restaurant was getting quite crowded. The optimal time to go...
