My husband and I are staying in Sioux Falls over the summer and while I had been here before and didn't love it, we thought we would try it again. This time I would say the burgers were much better than last time I tried it over two years ago. I would also note that my husband and I consider ourselves (probably like a lot of people) burger connoisseurs. My husband had the blue cheese and bacon burger (which is the one I tried last time and didn't like) and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the JL burger which was delicious (double patty with grilled onions) and we had some beers and fries to go with the burger. Two critiques: to call your burgers truly the best I think the buns have to be really good, and I would say the buns were just average; and the service was a bit slow but to be fair our waitress was nice just a little overwhelmed as she seemed to be the only one. But the total package of flavors was delicious, and I would say for being able to sit in a restaurant and be served at a table at this price point makes it worth it. (As a note, I think Culver's is probably the best burger in Sioux Falls, but obviously sometimes you don't want a fast food experience.) Definitely try JL Beers if you're in Sioux Falls or any other place they have...
Read moreI have stopped by both locations of JL Beers in town before and have walked right back out because they are always packed.
Today, I stopped by the downtown location, and there were plenty of seats available, so I thought I was in for a treat.
I sat at a bar seat and asked for an Arnold Palmer. They only have bottles and cans, so the bartender said she could sell me a lemonade and a tea...I said great...as long as you can mix them in a glass with ice. Guess what? They do not have ice in this establishment. I said, "Fine, just give me the tea then."
Looking over the menu, I saw the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich and was happy to see it as I love a good Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich.
When the bartender asked what I would like, I told her, and she said "sorry; we don't have any Chicken today...we are known for our burgers."
I get that they may be known for their burgers however, a burger was not what I wanted. So I left disappointed.
They specialize in beer (which I guess is why they don't have an ice machine) and burgers, but I don't drink and don't eat burgers all that often.
Maybe I will try going in again someday when I am in the mood...
Read moreFood was great but... Arrived with 4 people and was told only bar top seating available. We said we would wait for a table. They did not want us waiting and said we needed to sit at the bar and could move to a table when one opened. We ordered drinks and food and once a table opened we went to move. We were told we couldn't move until the food came out. Why we have no idea. Once our food came out we moved. After that we were ignored by the staff and when they came to clear our stuff they were openly hostile towards us. Probably would have ordered more if anyone had stopped to check in on us.
If you are only thete with 2 people I'm sure it's great, but if you are in a party larger then that think twice. Probably not the best place to get together with out of state friends. Maybe don't tell people they can move to a table if you really don't them to. Will think long and hard about going back knowing there are so many other amazing places to...
