Updating with my experience from today. After all, any business can have one off day. They did add some signage to kind of help in figuring out what was available, but you still have to figure out what each pastry is. I got the pretzel and the chorizo scone this time. The pretzel actually had great flavor, it just wasn’t fresh, making it kind of dense and chewy. The scone was okay, but overcooked and the chorizo flavor was a bit overpowering and masked the other ingredients. Unfortunately, this will probably be my last time eating here. Two pastries that were not bad, but definitely not good for over $12 is just a bit much. I do not mind paying for quality, but that seems to have dropped significantly lately.
Original review: I am sharing this review as a former admirer of Sisters Bakery. This used to be a staple for me any time I was in town. However, the last experience I had was simply not enjoyable. I brought some out-of-town friends here hoping to share the consistently great experience, but ultimately I left quite embarrassed at how mediocre everything was. I am not sure if the head baker has changed, but many of the pastries that I used to love are simply not that good anymore. For example, the chocolate croissant used to be simple, elegant, and exactly what a chocolate croissant should be. Then they started putting a chocolate drizzle on top which, while beautiful, completely ruins the texture of the pastry, making it more chewy and less flaky. The scones that used to be my favorite also seemed to be not fresh and much more crumbly. The service is always friendly and fine, but considering the line that forms here, especially on weekends, and the small footprint of the bakery, there are some small tweaks that could make service significantly better. First of all, put labels on the pastries (rocket science, I know). Sure, your regulars might know what everything is and what they want, but most people spend at least 5-minutes asking what each thing is. This would surely make the ordering process much more seamless and reduce the repetitive responses from the staff. Second, please put prices on things. It is always a bit alarming when you buy four pastries and the total...
Read moreOne of the best bakeries in the country! One star? Yes. The reason? No posted prices anywhere, baked goods or coffee. We bought 10 items plus one coffee for $66 so we calculated the average cost of $6 each. No receipt but the tip was expected (not left by us). "If the menu is above the head, it's not a restaurant". I understand that this is Oregon and everything here is expensive. My point is this: would you ever buy any goods without knowing the cost? It's the principle. If the business does not post prices they are either doing it to hide something (expensive and they know it) or they are robbing their customer, knowingly. Your options? Ask the server how much does each item cost (embarrassing), so most people would not ask. We made a detour to visit this bakery but would not be doing this again. It's too bad because their scones and Focaccias are the best! The baked goods left and excellent taste in our mouth but left a bitter taste...
Read moreSisters Bakery is a staple stop for me anytime I visit the area. I havent been in 4 years but it is still the same cute little bakery with friendly staff and a line full of people waiting for delicious treats. They have a small section of merch, teas, jams and coffee. They also have the pastry counter and a large display counter, and their offerings are ever changing. I always buy the cheddar jalapeno bread. Out favorite used to be their 2 foot long cheese breadsticks, unfortunately they stopped producing those about 10 years ago. We got a marion berry coffee cake, their large apple fritter, a Marion berry scone, bear claw, ham & cheese crissont, rice crispy treats, and some butter cookies. I always pick up a jar of the Marion berry jam. They have a small seating section down the side of the bakery, they also serve coffee, tea and have some bottle beverages for purchase. I reccomend getting there early, once they are out...
