I’ve been to the food trucks several times (they’re great) but never the Barn itself until recently.
Short version: Disappointing service. Also, update your hours on Google if you’re not actually open when it says you are.
Long version: On our way home late Saturday evening and hungry for dinner we were stoked to see the Barn was open until 10 PM while most of the rest of Sisters was closed. We walked in at 8:55 and saw several people eating delicious looking burgers - Yes!!! Alas, these were not for us.
We sat down at the bar where we were not greeted for at least five minutes all the while watching the bartender cleaning glasses and counters right in front of us. When we were finally greeted, we asked to see a menu, and the bartender informed us the kitchen closes at 9 PM. It was now 9:02. Meanwhile another order of burgers was brought out right under our noses and whisked off to other customers seated nearby. The bartender then provisionally offered us “squares.” We had to dig a little to get her to explain that meant pizza, but she would “have to ask if it was still available.”
So we waited. Five minutes later she came back and offered us cheese or pepperoni. We chose pepperoni but after some back and forth decided to split one (thinking they were probably the larger portions we were accustomed to at the food trucks/bartender, feel free to interject a recommendation here). When the “square” came out it was clearly a single serving. Oh well, it may have been on us to ask how big these portions were, but the bartender didn’t seem to want to be bothered and at that point we still had some faith in a good outcome.
Ah, no big deal. We just needed a knife to split it. The bartender disappeared into the kitchen, then came out again empty handed saying “they’re washing a knife for you right now.” We waited… and waited… and finally were like “f it, we’re tearing this thing in half.” The knife never came.
Why she didn’t just take 30 seconds to wash a single knife for us and bring it back? But the coup de grâce was still to come:
The bartender asks my girlfriend “can I get you anything to drink?” She replied, “some water would be great,” to which the bartender pointed across the room and said, “self serve water is over there.” Screw this bartender! Why ask if you’re not going to provide it? For that matter, she should have had glasses of water out for us right after we sat down. Instead my girlfriend got up from the bar walked across the restaurant, got herself water, came back and sat down.
I realize coming in later and not ordering drinks might not make us the most profitable customers, but we are friendly and tip well. If they would have been willing to serve us more than a “square” (and the bare minimum of a utensil to eat it with and a glass of water), maybe we would have put more money in her pocket. Whether clueless or irritable, I can't say, but girl is clearly in the wrong industry.
PS: if you’re open until ten, then keep the kitchen open until ten. Otherwise close at 9. Or at the very least make a note to this effect or do your best to accommodate your customers. After all, we were there BEFORE 9, with our money, waiting: It was fully in your control to create an experience that would actually...
Read moreWe've gone to the Barn on a number of occasions. However, this last time, we came away disappointed. We paid $67 for 3, 10-inch pizzas. Two of the three pizzas had an awful rotten taste to them (the cheese?), to the point where even our teenage son wouldn't eat them. At the bar, we also ordered a cookie and a glass of wine. The cookie was completely dried out, and the pour on the wine was minimal. The server literally reached over and poured from an open bottle in less than 20 seconds. I didn't tip as it was a 30 second transaction and we weren't seated at a bar with a bartender serving. Later, I heard the staff making fun of me.
Last month at the Pine Tavern, we spent $60 tipping on a meal, and it felt warranted. Great, attentive service, a nice environment. But here, listening in on that conversation for not choosing either 15% or 20% for a 30-second wine pour? I don't think...
Read moreWe always stop here on our way home from mushroom foraging, hiking, or hanging at Suttle Lake. All of the food trucks are stellar! Especially the BBQ and pizza truck. The beer selection is hit or miss. Usually, around 8 beers on draft with wine, ciders, and cocktails for those looking for something different. The Barn itself has food, too. I've never tried it, but it looks really good! My only issue and I'm sure you've heard it before. This place gets really busy and which makes the single drink line super long. Please open a second line or put an outside bar in effect during the weekend. You would increase drink sales while shortening the line indoors. I'm sure some of the indoor patrons would be happy with that, too. When that door is open, it can get pretty drafty in there. Anyways, love you guys! Great place with a great atmosphere and a super...
