I have never been so disappointed and disgusted with the service I received at Cracker Barrel El Paso's far east side.
First of all my 94 yr old mom wanted peach cobbler, when received it was freezing cold as though it went from the refrigerator to her dish not warmed up. My recollection of peach cobbler or any cobbler is it is served warm. Secondly I asked for the sweet potato casserole and was told it was not available only on Thursdays with the turkey plate, previously to my recollection it could be ordered as a side for an additional fee. No problem with that. Nothing on the menu states its not available otherwise. Thirdly I ordered a house salad which was poorly made. It was mostly the parts of the lettuce closest to the core, pale in color not appetizing at all. It was suppose to include croutons and bacon bits which were not on my salad, I had to ask for them. Chicken and dumpling soup is on the menu under the soup and salad section. However when I attempted to order a cup the waiter went to ask the kitchen manager or head cook whatever title he has and returned stating it was not available.
I asked to speak to a manager, the kitchen manager/cook informed me that soup in particular was not available and would soon be deleted from the menu. By this point I was very disgusted with the service, another individual appeared, I'm assuming the restaurant manager, and asked what was wrong i briefed him on the poor service and mentioned some of the items i had asked for were not available, such as the soup. He abruptly responded that it was available and didn't know why i was told otherwise. I finally received my salad and soup, the soup was very bland, no seasoning and probably right out of a can. Sadly my mother and I settled and ate what was served to us simply because my mother is a diabetic and had to eat, otherwise we would have left the terrible food and service behind and gone somewhere else. I couldn't risk my mom having a diabetic emergency so we settled for the poor service and disgusting food. We will never eat at this restaurant again. You...
Read moreOne of the worst dining experiences we have had in a very long time. We have good memories of eating at cracker barrel in East Texas and don't remember any bad experiences over there. This was not the case here in Horizon. The weather was foul and there were several of us waiting the store section waiting for our seats. We finally got called and we were led to the dining room area. We were given a makeshift table consisting of a wooden barrel with a checkerboard table on top of it. Needless to say it was very small and I didn't t think it would allow for enough room for our dishes; coffee; silverware; unrestricted movement. Not to mention how uncomfortable it was to sit close enough to reach the table due to the geometry of the barrel. Not to mention this makeshift table was up against a wall on one side and a fireplace place some 3 to 4 feet away. This corridor was a high traffic area for customers and staff. Additionally the managers of the restaurant were dragging extra chairs along the floor creating an uncomfortable auditory environment already on top of the high baseline dining room noise level and the discomfort associated with the seating arrangements and our seating positions. I finally asked one of the managers to move us. They moved us and as quickly as we were moved, they sat another unsuspecting couple there. We ordered our food and coffee. The food arrived cold; tasteless and small portioned. We didn't get offered coffee refills until we finished eating and had paid our bill. Will never go again. As a side note I really hate how more and more restaurants are moving toward using an app when it makes zero sense. Using the app for making reservations and then for paying your bill is the silliest thing ever. Avoid this place. It is not what...
Read moreSadly our last two visits have made us want to try going to a different one nearby. The waitress was nicer this time than the last but on both our visits we had to ask for cornbread/biscuits twice before we got it and got it after our food or right before. My portion size was smaller yesterday and on my visit before they gave me a pot pie that was super small so they ended up giving me a new one but I was so hungry and waited so long I ate the first one. The pot pie only had a few tiny pieces of chicken and peas, broccoli and no carrots. Definitely don’t plan on ordering that again. It also didn’t even fill the bowl. During that visit the waiter, Jesus I think made us to feel uncomfortable even asking for biscuits and rudely stated that the kids milk doesn’t come with refills when during our previous visits there and at another location they gave them to us so we weren't aware of that until then. They also wouldn’t give a soft drink refill to my children who first got milk but would to the two who got soft drinks, which made no sense because they weren’t getting milk again. Yesterday was a Sunday and was busy so we sat outside and got our order in quickly but it still took at least 30 minutes to even get our food or more. The previous visit was on a Friday evening and hardly anyone was there so it made no sense why our food took so long. We also were celebrating our daughters 11th birthday and Jesus stated that he would have to charge us for the birthday desert that used to be complimentary. It was really odd and uncomfortable visit for even my husband who hardly ever complains. Truly disappointed especially since we loved Cracker Barrel so much prior to these last two visits. I don’t recommend going to the Gateway East location in El Paso...
