Union Square Pizza & Sub — Restaurant in Somerville

Was looking for quality Indian takeout and on reading reviews, I gave Union Square Pizza & Subs a try. Normally I would be skeptical (that the place is a pizza and sub joint) but the Indian was pretty legit and tasty. Looked to be possible family run. No place for eating in during these pandemic times that I saw during a takeout pickup.

Over 2 different orders we tried Vegetarian and Meat entrees (very good, tasted homemade and flavourful. Almost at the level of my regional fav, India Pavilion in Cambridge), garlic naan (excellent). The only miss was a Lentil and Garlic soup that only contained broth! (really no lentils or other ingredients), the broth tasted good with the supplied rice that came with our entrees.

Run in the opposite direction of this place. Found a bone shard in my chicken makhni, a complement to the pounds of gristle marketed as "chicken." The meat samosa tasted like a bland shepherds pie. The curry itself was passable, though it seemed like they thought spice could account for lack of flavor. I have also read of a different account where someone found an entire snail shell in their dish, which does not surprise me at all. The cherry on top was the broken curry container which spilled all over everything else (and us). This was a truly wretched experience. Took a stop by with my friend Nick Evangelis to go and scour what is in the Somerville area for food and he was wildly impressed. We are an LGBT couple on Magnus Ave who loves the Boston area and love the offerings at this place. If you stop by you must come here and try the chicken wings, the Indian food is also incredible. The owner personally came up to us and discussed that combing Indian and Italian food becomes a lot to many indigenous Bostonians here and yet recently he has seen a huge boom in business as more people move into the area.
