To be honest I’d like to give them 2.5 stars. First while they have a very nice looking outdoor seating area it was raining, so we ate inside. The walls and floors of the restaurant were gross and dirty so we’re the menus they handed us. The dirty environment was more than just a turn off, it seems like a sign of an overall lack of quality and care which showed in the food.
Starting with the things they did well, they provided free chips and salsa. It was what you’d expect, average salsa and greasy chips (might explain the gross menus). Nice perk for dinner especially if you are having beverages…
We went for taco Tuesday, where they serve $2.50 tacos but only chicken, veggie, and Al pastor (marinated pork), so we ordered one of each, two sides of guacamole and the queso/birria tacos.
The food came out quickly and the service was prompt. The disappointment was with the food.
First, we ordered two sides of guacamole 3.75 (each) — total waste of money. They were so full of raw onion that I couldn’t eat it. Imagine an chopped onion salad with some green guacamole mixed on it. I understand avocados are expensive and they need to add stuff to the guacamole to make it profitable, but this was unacceptable, even places like Anna’s, Tenoch, and Amigos have better quality guacamole and they are not sit down restaurants.
The tacos are served on two corn tortillas, the veggie taco was the best out of the bunch but mediocre. The chicken was terrible, tasted like it was cooked hours ago and kept warm for too long. The pastor taco was full of fatty bits, I’d say 1/2 of my taco was fat and the other half eatable. While I realize it’s a discounted taco night, the quality was just not there…
The highlight was the Birria and queso tacos served three to a plate with consommé, raw onions, and spicy hot sauce. The tacos were generously stuffed and the consommé had a unique mole like flavor. These tacos were the highlight of our dinner and something I would recommend.
FYI—the restaurant serves their hot sauce in a shared container with a spoon that gets moved from table to table. Needless to say we didn’t touch them as it’s hard to say they were clean.
If you are looking for a value and great tacos I would recommend going to Taco Loco just 1 block away. The tacos are always fresh and delicious, the price is very reasonable, and the quality is always excellent.
If you are looking for great tacos, a fun vibe, and good drink menu I’d recommend La Posada in Magoon Square.
Finally, I’d rate the quality of the chicken, veggie, and pork at Anna’s, Tenoch, and Amigos (all three are Mexican restaurants in Davis square) as higher quality and better tasting than what we experienced at Rincon.
The shame is that they could be so much better…first the place needs a deep clean, if they don’t want to wash menus they could switch to paper, and they definitely need to up their game with the taste and quality.
I would suggest the owner check out some of the other Mexican restaurants in Somerville and do some soul searching to see why they are so full...
Read moreI've been to this place a few times during taco tuesdays for dinner. I have never had any problems with the food or service, and I don't expect much. Recently, the service became upsetting that I had to write this review. We had to wait a long time to get served. I had to walk up to the counter just to get attention. I noticed the servers were new so I didn't complain much. We ordered the dollar tacos with toppings, but they forgot to put the toppings on so we called that out and they gave us the toppings as sides, but they gave us the wrong toppings and essentially charged us for sides we didn't order. We complained towards the end, but the server refused to acknowledge her mistake, and we waited so long already so we were like w/e let's just pay and leave. But then we waited so long and the server never picked up our credit card as we were waiting patiently. The servers instead decided to clean tables even though there weren't even new customers coming in... So I decided I had enough of this and took the check to the counter to speak to the manager. This is the worst part. Instead of acknowledging our bad experience, he excused himself for having busy hours. He asked me to understand that it's taco tuesdays and that there are many people waiting as well. He told me that he was going to take it away as if to point out that we were somehow taking advantage of the deal. He then told me that I had a right to voice my opinion. What the hell kinda lame response is that? Their service was in disarray because they couldn't handle that many people, so is this manager seriously saying that he hopes to have less people in the restaurant by taking away taco tuesday because having your tables fully occupied seems to be the problem? Very good...
Read moreFirst discovered this jewel after reading several reviews. We were looking for a place to possibly cater a surprise party (off-premises), so I sent the 'forward team' ahead to check it out. Got great reviews from them, so my wife and I made the trip down (we're from Maine) to check it out ourselves. Excellent lunch, so I set out to plan a surprise party for 30 people. Lorenzo (the owner) was so pleasant and helpful planning the menu, which had to include fish tacos (one of our daughter's favorites).
Lorenzo was great at communicating with me, and showed up right as planned. While we were busy setting up decorations, he set up his 'kitchen ' and the serving station. Beautifully.
He started us off (as planned) with fantastic guacamole, which he made on-site, pico de gallo, salsa and tortilla chips.
Then came the trays of beautifully presented nachos, one beef, and one vegetarian. The beef nachos were probably the best I've ever enjoyed. He skimped on - nothing! Oh-so-good...
For dinner, we had a buffet taco bar with carnitas, beef, chicken, and a vegetarian option. Lorenzo kept creating plate after plate of extraordinary (and again, beautifully-presented) fish tacos, also offering potato & cheese flautas (OMG), and two different types of quesadillas, along with vegetarian rice and black beans. In addition to all the usual 'additions', Lorenzo had an exquisite salsa verde. Sooo good!
He kept the area filled with fresh food, kept it all immaculate, and was every bit a professional.
In short, his food, his artistry, and his professionalism were top notch. Looking forward to going back to the restaurant, and I offer the highest recommendation for...
