There were no signs for self-seating so we stood for a minute not knowing what to do but once we were acknowledged and picked a table for ourselves it was a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. The wait for drinks was 20 minutes and that was from the time we were seated to her taking our drink order after 10 minutes to then getting the drinks. We were ready to place our orders after 20 minutes but she insisted on only taking our appetizer order. My husband and I ordered from the downtown South Bend restaurant week; I had the Cajun shrimp and he had the breadsticks and cheese. Appetizers were great. She came back to get our dinner order which we both got the Angus Burger grilled cheese. The server didn't seem to be very knowledgeable of what all drink offerings or what came on the food but we were pretty flexible. My husband was expecting a burger and I was expecting exactly what we got which was ground beef and cheese on toasted bread. We didn't eat more than half of the sandwich although the sweet potato fries I ordered and regular fries he ordered were fantastic!. We rounded out with the bread pudding and the brownie which were both fantastic. Overall this would be a great place to stop and have a drink and an appetizer with dessert but expect a wait. The entire process took us 2 hours- we weren't in a rush but it would have been nice if there was more than one server for the whole place (perhaps someone called out which is why we were very patient with the process and didn't hold anything...
Read moreFound a fantastic deal on Groupon and decided to try this local brewery. Located in the upper level of the old Studebaker mansion, I was worried it would be a little to fancy for a jeans and t-shirt kind of visit, but I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. The atmosphere, while located in an absolutely gorgeous mansion, is casual and quiet. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful, and the food was reasonably priced, with a nice selection of pub grub, flat breads, and sandwiches. We had some very good loaded potato skins and a beer flight. Each beer was fantastic! The Imperial Birthday Stout (to celebrate their first anniversary) deserves special mention. We sampled the Nitro version and WOW, was it good. Each other beer we sampled was also quite good - crisp IPAs, smooth cream ale, and a perfectly spiced sweet potato brew. With fantastic beer, good food, a beautiful location, (and did I mention a decent wine list?), we will definitely be coming back. I would highly recommend you give it a try. And, if local history is your thing, see if you can stop by for one of the tours, that's my...
Read moreVisited after a Note Dame game with a group of eight. So much to cover… Called ahead and were told a group of nine had just canceled. Showed up to find out that the reservation was in the main restaurant, but only after being ignored for a few minutes. Did catch some stares from staff. The hostess at Tippecanoe Place did a fantastic job accommodating us but not what we were looking for. We’ve been to hundreds of breweries all over the Midwest. This was different. The environment was what I’ve experienced in bourbon bars. No kids in bar area and the rest of the the venue is not readily apparent. Two things ultimately. The brewery should have its own phone number to avoid confusion. The website should let viewers know this is not a regular brewery experience. Felt much more like a bar in an expensive hotel. Wish I could review the beer. I can say the service, cocktails and food at Tippecanoe Place were...
