The house is outdated. The location on Chapin smelled like an old basement. The sheets on my bed were dirty as if they were left on the bed from the previous person. The house keeper is very rude. She tried opening my door several times before it was checkout time and did not even attempt to knock first. I paid good money to stay there, and the woman who goes by, “ Cassandra”, who apparently oversees all the bookings, is so cheap with snacks, she failed to restock the snacks while I stayed. In a passive manner, she had the house keeper put a empty plastic container out, in place of the snacks. I was assuming it was for someone to put money in? I was confused. I pay 80.00 dollars a night to stay in an old dingy bedroom with no Tv and the house had no breakfast, but you can’t put new snacks out? It was interesting today the least. There are other tenants that live in the Thomas street location that I also believe are using drugs. One woman kept sneaking in and out of the house. I ran into her in the main room downstairs, she saw me, ran the other way. Then I saw her again and she had her hood on, covering her entire face (like Kenny from South Park) and tried hiding herself. Very bizarre environment. Will not ever book again. Also, on Expedia, they advertise a picture of a beautiful fountain, in addition to other attractions in south bend, that are nowhere near the hotel. Don’t believe everything you see with...
Read moreMy stay at The Avanti houses was not at all what I expected... I was looking for an inexpensive, easy-to-get-to location where I could just toss my stuff and find a bed for an evening. Instead, I found a very welcoming property reminded me of staying with a relative or friend and being welcomed into their home. The house itself is remarkably decorated with amazing examples of car memorabilia; the common areas are welcoming and have lots of seating and lots of options. The kitchen is well-stocked, with water and snacks out on the counter. Options for simple cooking (microwave, air fryer/toaster oven, single burner, crock pot) are available along with a full complement of cooking vessels and utensils, I was able to find a fork for my carry-out treat easily. I stayed in Room 18 (Avanti 2) and found it perfect for my needs. The room was clean, furnished with a comfortable chair and bed and decorated with tiffany-style lamps in addition to continuing the car theme. There were plenty of rugs on the hardwood floor, and the attached bath was convenient and comfortable. You can tell that the owners have put a lot of thought into setting up a welcoming and convenient experience for their guests.
I wan't sure what I was getting into when I made the decision to stay at Avanti House, but I'm very glad I did! I highly recommend this property, and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again...
Read moreI stayed at Avanti House 1. Trying to travel on a budget, I found this to be a pretty good choice. It's an old house, probably constructed in the early 20th century, and is located directly across from the Studebaker national Museum. I would describe it as a sort of cross between B&B and hostel. Although breakfast is not provided, there are snacks and coffee in the communal kitchen, and equipment to do your own cooking if you choose to do that. It's reasonably quiet, clean, comfortable. My room had an en suite bath, which is tiny but serviceable. The other rooms use a common bathroom. There are several common rooms with widescreen TV available. The house is filled with interesting antique articles and memorabilia. I could walk to downtown South Bend restaurants and shops in 15 to 20 minutes. There is a laundromat and grocery store located approximately one block from the house. The nearest bus stop is three blocks away, and the bus runs to the South Bend transportation center for domestic and international flights, commuter train to Chicago, and long haul bus services. The house has its own off street parking for...
