China Wok — Restaurant in South Carolina

We were craving Chinese food and decided to check out China Wok, which seemed to be the most affordable option nearby. As they say, you get what you pay for, but this place definitely surprised us in a few ways.

I placed a takeout order, and the staff member on the phone was friendly, patient, and accommodating. I was hoping for honey wings, even though they weren’t on the menu, and he was more than happy to add honey sauce to my order of chicken wings and shrimp fried rice. My husband went with the Orange Chicken combo plate, and we also got some cheese wontons.

The wontons came out crispy and warm, which was a great start. The fried chicken wings? Absolutely amazing—crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned. I honestly didn’t even need the honey sauce, they were that good. The rice was decent, though it could’ve used a bit more seasoning. The orange chicken was also tasty, with the perfect balance of citrus flavor.

Overall, we were happy with our choice. I gave it 3 stars mainly because we got takeout, and my husband noticed it was a bit busy when we picked up the order. Still, if you’re on the fence about trying it, I’d definitely recommend giving China Wok a shot. We’ll be...

Only reason it isn't getting less is because I can't. Terrible experience. Walk in, sit down, tossed menus, asked drink, then waitress comes back maybe 5 minutes later, asks what we want, we tell her, she comes out with the food in maybe 5 minutes, sounds great, right? Wrong, the food was clearly not fresh in the slightest, the egg roll was just redipped in oil to make it hot and everything else was pretty clearly microwaved and old and gross, literally neither of us could finish the food and we were trying because we were both hungry. Anyhow, we decide to cut our losses and try to go pay, they tell us that the card machine is down, and has been all day. No one said anything about this and there were no signs, they insisted they had to write down and take pictures of my card/ I told them I wasn't cool with that, so they told my friend to stay while I went to go get cash from Aldi's. I originally was going to wait to write this review, and then I got massively sick from what I can only assume was there, now, as I spend time hunched over in pain from my sickness, I have the time to tell everyone about my experience there. First time I ate there, I did not love their fried rice, but the rest of the food was quite good. I decided to give them a few more tries and see what else they might do well. They are a go to for me now, I eat there at least once a week. Their Lo Mein is excellent. I'm a chicken eater, first, and their chicken is very good but their beef dishes are incredible. The get the beef SO tender and the cuts are the perfect size and thickness. Steak & Peppers, Beef & Broccoli, Beef Lo Mein all excellent. The Veggie spring rolls top the egg rolls. Their soups are also excellent. I've since started to like their fried rice, but prefer the steamed with their flavorful dishes. I also LOVE spicy HOT and they will get the temperature up for you if you make a strong request. The service is lighting fast, but I've had a hard time trying to get a smile out of servers.
