There is no doubt that there are a lot of places that claim they are serving "Authentic" food from what ever city it's from. How many New York pizza places have you seen and ate at that did not do the city of it's origin justice.
Let me introduce you to a place that is a complete 180 degrees of that. The Real Deal name pretty much says it all. I decided to check this place out because it's hard to find good cheesesteaks period.
The cheesesteak in the picture is how they eat it in Philly according to the lady there. What is it you ask, it's a cheesesteak with onions, mayo, salt & pepper ketchup. I was skeptical at first, but tried it anyway. When in Rome is what I say. I know what you're thinking, isn't it suppose to have wiz on there? To you I say shut your filthy mouth and just take a bite. Life changer.
Not only is the cheesesteak authentic, but the Philly attitude and feeling is there too. Don't go there if you get offended easily and can't take a joke. Actually go in there order the cheesesteak and get your feelings hurt. After that you can sit in you car crying about how you were made fun of while eating a life changing cheesesteak and realize the abuse is totally worth it.
Ashville Hwy is not the prettiest place, but it definitely is the BEST place to get cheesesteaks in the Upstate. The wife and husband who run the place are absolutely great souls with the Philly hospitality.
If you go, tell them Francisco sent you and they might throw something at...
Read moreThe Real Deal has easily the best Philly Cheese Steak I've ever had. I may not have been to Philly, but I know good food when I eat it.
The sandwiches are massive, and completely stuffed with luscious steak and cheese (plus whatever you want added). Earnest, the owner and chef, cooks everything up fresh to order and lays it out on the soft, warm buns. Absolutely delicious. Prices are more than reasonable for the portions and quality. Two sandwiches, two drinks, and an order of fries was about $22.50, and I could hardly finish everything.
Ordering is a unique endeavor. The entryway is very compact, with the register and a small waiting area for takeout orders. Upon paying, patrons who wish to dine in must pass through the small hallway into the dining area. There are only 4 tables, but the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded when I went at lunch time on a Friday. Along the walls are pictures of patrons new to Real Deal.
Real Deal may have become one of my favorite places in Spartanburg with a single visit. The food is delicious, prices are reasonable, service is both quick and genuine. Outside and in, it's just a hole in the wall that most people wouldn't even notice. Once you try it, you'll realize it's...
Read morePassed through here a while back and wanted to share the positive experience I had.
This place is called “The Real Deal” and it did not disappoint.
I don’t feel that I ever had an authentic cheesesteak before until I stopped in. I asked Dana to prepare a sandwich the way she would eat it, to make sure I had a genuine experience.
Her typical way of preparing a cheesesteak is with a prime cut of meat, finely chopped, with some onions and seasoning, and provolone or American cheese.
The food was prepared quickly, with fresh ingredients.
Because it’s not overloaded with toppings, you can really savor the flavors of the meat, cheese, bread, and seasonings. It’s a filling meal that doesn’t feel too heavy, greasy, or unhealthy because it’s prepared with care and top-notch ingredients.
I order a 6” lunch special with fries and a soda, and it was reasonably priced compared to all the costly junk fast food that’s out there these days.
If you check their Facebook, you can see that the menu is filled with a lot of offerings to satisfy any palate, and I’m positive they’ll all be equally as good.
Stop in for a filling, tasty, and healthy lunch prepared with TLC by Dana - you won’t be...
