We went through the drive through on Saturday around 5, the place had a decent amount of customers but was not overly crowded or busy inside or out. Having never been before I assumed the list of flavors at the top were their ice cream flavors and ordered an Oreo single cone and a brownie single cone. The person over the speaker confirmed this order. When we got to the window it took over five minutes for someone to even talk to us. When they did they asked “oreo S.C. And brownie S.C?” Now, I don’t work there and I don’t know their internal lingo so I assumed S.C. meant Single Cone, which was what I’d asked for, the first red flag was what he said next. He yelled over his shoulder for someone to make Oreo and brownie “toppers”. I was confused but the window was closed again so my friend and I waited. Another few minutes go by as someone makes our order. Finally the man at the window asks for payment, and after that a girl walks up to the window holding two cups of vanilla custard with toppings. I clarify to her that I asked for cones. She stood there and stared at me for a minute before turning to the man who had taken our order. After they spoke he proceeded to tell me that I had ordered “S.C. Toppers”. I said that I asked for a single cone and had no idea what he meant by “topper”. He called yet another person over. A couple minutes of conversation later this third person stuck his head out the window to tell us that cones only come in a few flavors, vanilla, chocolate, and something else. Nothing on the menu indicates this, but okay. I asked for chocolate cones and figured we’d be in our way. At this point we’d been sitting at the drive through window for like 15 minutes. Another few minutes went by before the first cone was brought to us, followed by the second a couple minutes after that. If the confusion and ridiculously long service time weren’t enough the cones themselves came out looking like they’d been made by a toddler five minutes before we got them. The pictures I’ve included were taken immediately after the cones were passed to us. The differences between a cup with toppings and a cone is about a dollar each. I was not offered back the difference and to be honest I didn’t ask. I don’t like causing issues for service people. But it was not a good experience at all. I’m giving it two stars instead of one because the chocolate custard was delicious.

Their custard was divine! It was so incredibly creamy and smooth. We absolutely loved our chocolate custard concrete with brownies and raspberries, and the vanilla custard with raspberry and brownies. The chocolate, peanut butter, Oreo concrete was also good, but richer. The burger we got was ok, and the grilled cheese was basic (though we did get it without onions which probably would have made it more interesting), but the fries were some of the best I’ve ever had. They were bigger than your average fry, and the inside was perfectly fluffy and the outside crispy! So delicious. I did add salt to mine because I liked them saltier. I gave them 5 stars specifically because the shakes and fries were so good I can’t wait to go back. They have walk up ordering with outside seating, a drive-thru, or dine-in options. And the overall esthetic was fun. This is clearly a local favorite. The bathroom is through an outside white door on the south side of the building. If you found this review helpful, please like it so Google and I know. Thanks! (Original review 1/21/2023, added to on 8/5/2025)

I am absolutely addicted to this place! 10/24/2020 EDITED Again: So weve been back a few times since our bad interaction and they are back to the great nielsons that we love so I have updated review back to a FIVE STAR truly earned it. EDITED: originally a 5star review, Well always loved this place met the owner in bountiful. He would be furious with the way this place is ran on some days. Luckily ive had all good experiences until yesterday 10/21/20 Wednesday. The staff was rude, disregarding covid regulations and completely unorganized giving orders to the wrong car 3 times. And the guy taking orders was completely rude and has no place at nielsons. Get him out before your reputation gets tarnished. We love nielsons. But will start going back to bountiful location if this problem isnt solved, as im not the only one looking down the reviews. There is even a picture of the younger boy taking orders. Drinking shakes at the drive thru window. Get him outta there before you loose valued customers. Will update next time I go.

I love Nielsen’s, but tonight was a terrible experience. I ordered from their walk-up to-go window. Got there around 9:00 pm and didn’t have my complete order until 9:45. I ordered one FC topper, a kid's cheeseburger meal, and one corn dog. They brought out the concrete first. After waiting about 15 minutes for my food to come out, my FC topper was almost completely melted. I asked if my food was ready and they hadn’t even made it yet, all while groups of people were getting their food who’d ordered after me. I also showed them that the ice cream had melted and they offered to make me a new one and keep it in the freezer while they made my food, which was nice. Another 15 minutes go by and half of my food is done. They gave me my burger and fries. I told the gentleman that I also ordered a corn dog, and I still needed the drink for the meal and the replacement ice cream. He made it seem like he was going to check on it, so I sat back down to wait. 10 more minutes go by and most of the staff (including the last gentleman I spoke with) are kind of just walking around chatting with each other as it’s getting close to closing. I walk up to the window again and the gentleman that said they’d remake the ice cream asked me if I had received my food yet. I explained to him that I had only received half of my order, what I was missing, that I had spoken to several people, and that I had been waiting for 30-40 minutes to receive my complete order. He sincerely apologized and helped me on getting the remainder of my order. I was the very last person outside to get their order. Everyone that had ordered after me had already eaten and left. I decided to just eat the food in my car because it was so late by that point. …and the fries were stale and the corn dog was undercooked and doughy. I wish I wouldn’t have wasted my money and just gone somewhere else. I’m giving two stars to the one gentleman that helped me, and because their custard was really good. But MAN! this restaurant needs to have a manager or some type of organizational system in place!!! It’s all a bunch of high school students working the place. So yeah, when it gets close to closing time I don’t...

Nelson's Frozen Custard, is a cherished Utah institution since 1981, is a delightful throwback to a simpler time when a delicious, creamy dessert was the highlight of any day. More than just a dessert shop, Nelson's offers a unique and satisfying culinary experience rooted in its commitment to quality and tradition. The moment you walk into a Nelson's location, the nostalgic, retro-diner atmosphere transports you to a 1950s soda fountain, complete with vintage signage and the low hum of the custom-made custard machines. The star of the show, of course, is the custard itself. Nelson's frozen custard is a superior product, crafted with a patented machine that minimizes the air whipped into it. This process results in an incredibly thick, dense, and creamy treat that stands far above standard ice cream. The menu is built on this foundation of quality. While vanilla and chocolate are always available, the rotating "Flavor of the Day" keeps the offerings fresh and exciting. Past favorites like pumpkin and lemon custard have become legendary among regulars, and the anticipation of what the next flavor will be is a major part of the experience. The signature "concrete" a thick, hand-blended mix of custard and various toppings—is the ultimate indulgence. For those seeking a truly special treat, the caramel cashew and raspberry almond concretes are renowned for their rich flavor and satisfying texture. The generosity of the mix ins ensures every bite is a perfect blend of custard and topping. For those with less of a sweet tooth, Nelson's offers a savory dinner side with a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and the famous fry sauce that Utahn's...
