I've now tried both the dinner and the brunch and both were amazing.
UPDATE: I went to the Porch yesterday and unfortunately was served by a middle-aged woman who was unbelievably grumpy and put off by customers. She was training another younger server, and I genuinely hope that she isn't learning anything from her trainer. I have never had a negative experience with service at a restaurant, but this crossed the line.
Our experience: We had made a reservation the day prior, but upon arrival, we were informed that we weren't on their list. Despite much resistance, we were finally seated.
Then came ordering. My wife asked what their specials were. The waitress replied that it was their unlimited ribs night. I had seen a promo on Facebook that said BOGO dinner meals and $3 kids meals on the night we were there. I asked her about it and she acted very put off, but replied that yes, it was still valid. My wife ordered her burger. Then, I asked her what she would recommend for me. I was told something like, "well we're a southern restaurant so some people like meat, some people like vegetables...." I said, "well, I'm kind of a meat guy myself" to which she kind of just smiled. She then asked, "would you like me to come back?" I said, "well I'm trying to remember what I've had here before..." to which she replied, "would you like me to come back" -_- I have never been to a restaurant where the server would not provide a recommendation when asked. Nor have I had a server insist on coming back multiple times within 30 seconds.
The food arrived. My meatloaf was fantastic, just like all of the food I have tried at The Porch up to this point. My wife was not impressed by her burger. But this review isn't about the food. The waitress then took far too long to ask the members of our party who had the unlimited ribs if they wanted more. She was likely put off that she had to serve them more.
Time for the check. The waitress had the audacity to bring 2 checks. Apparently she felt it was necessary to bring us the bill that showed what it would cost without the promo and the actual bill with the promo included. Then she circled the suggested tip amount on the no-promo receipt. Unbelievable. If you provided great service, I would give you a great tip, regardless of how much the bill is. This was the final straw that left me infuriated with the experience and pushed me to update my review.
PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, Porch. You guys have fantastic food and I'm so glad you're in the neighborhood, but I now see why others are giving you poor reviews. The service by this waitress was shameful and I have never left a review for poor service before. Even with a promo as good as this one, I WILL BE HESITANT TO RETURN UNTIL I KNOW THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED.
Sorry for the all caps, but you can't bold anything in...
Read moreI don’t often leave reviews but I leave this one as I trust the feedback will provide for growth for the establishment and the server(s).
The food itself was decent. I ordered the steak and it was cooked perfectly to how I ordered. My wife ordered the pork chop and it too was cooked perfectly leaving it not dry but juicy and the portion was enough to feed her twice.
My experience with our server and the service in general though was not great. We were greeted quickly by our server and given waters for refreshment. After returning to take our order, we didn’t see the server until I had to go inside and track her down for our bill. Our water and other drinks were not once refilled even after asking a different server for a refill and asking them to track down our server for us.
Our table split the bill, however while I was charged for my portion correctly, our friends were charged the entire bill. So in the end 150% was paid. Mistakes happen and I do understand that. However, due to the lack of service we had received during our night in general, this charging mistake adds on to the horrible service and leaves me feeling that it happened out of lack of care for ones jobs or level of service.
Upon speaking with some others about our experience at The Porch, they too mentioned they had a horrible experience with service and it’s why they have not yet returned. But, their experience is not for me to tell. My point is, based on my experience and the experience of others, I am reluctant to return to this establishment again. While the food was good and worth the amount paid. I rather go to an establishment with just as good or even better food, but receive superior service.
TL;DR? Good food, horrible service....
Read moreI’ve been to The Porch many times since they opened and have brought friends and family with me on several occasions. Living in the South Jordan area, we love supporting local businesses. Our experiences have always been great, with friendly servers who remember us and even recognize my daughter when we visit.
However, during our most recent visit, my wife and I were seated, and the menus were placed on the table. I picked up the food menu, not noticing the specials menu tucked underneath the drink menu. When the server arrived to take our order, I ordered the chicken biscuits. It was only afterward that I noticed the specials menu and saw something I would have preferred. While the server was still at our table taking my wife’s order, I asked if I could switch my order to one of the specials. To my surprise, the server said no, claiming my order had already been sent to the kitchen—even though my wife hadn’t even finished ordering her meal yet. She was still deciding on an appetizer at the time.
I was shocked by the server’s refusal, especially since she was still standing at our table. I decided to let it go and tried not to let it ruin our brunch experience. Later, the server apologized for the delay in food preparation, explaining that the cook was in training. This added to the frustration, as I couldn’t help but think she could have simply turned around and asked the kitchen to adjust my order. The food took quite a long time to arrive, making the situation even more disappointing.
While I’ve always enjoyed The Porch and appreciate the great service in the past, this visit fell short of the high standard we’ve...
