My sister and I went to Tio's today for lunch and I will never be going back, here's why. My sister got the chicken enchilada and shredded beef taco lunch special, I got the Chile Verde burrito and we got an appetizer of Carne Asada Nachos to share. The appetizers took a normal amount of time, but got there before the drinks got to the table. We asked for plates for the appetizer, and our drinks, and we had to hunt the waitress down again for plates and drinks, eventually asking a different waiter who brought them to us. The service for the meal continued in that fashion, asking our waitress for extra napkins, for a refill on soda, for the check, every time we had to hunt her down again and ask for those things after she did not return within 5 minutes or so. Now I could understand if it were busy, but there were 2 servers and 4 tables when we had lunch, there was no conceivable reason it would take this long for service. After sharing some of the food with each other nothing stood out in a positive way, I'll break down each dish below.
Appetizer Nachos - Though there were many toppings on the nachos the huge disappointment was the "Carne Asada", which both looked and texturally felt like powdery ground beef. The server says that they finely mince their Carne Asada and that's what we had, but whatever they did it was the worst Carne Asada I've ever had in 36 years. If you decide to go here the rest of the nachos were okay.
Chicken enchilada and shredded beef taco platter - The sauce for the enchiladas is the first thing you taste when you eat this, followed by cheese, and that's it. You don't taste the corn used in the enchilada mix, and you can't taste the chicken whatsoever. It felt like they put as much cheese on the Enchilada as possible to hide the fact that it had zero flavor. The shredded beef taco was soggy, completely full of wet shredded lettuce, and a very small amount of meat with almost no flavor.
Chile Verde Burrito w/ rice n beans - The rice had zero flavor, and the cubed pork in the burrito was over cooked, grainy, stringy, and flavorless. The Chile Verde sauce was alright, but honestly I wouldn't order it again, and I'm not sure if I could recommend any if the meat choices at this establishment as every single one was bad.
The atmosphere was fine, it was clean. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was unpleasant, to the point that after we left we went somewhere else and got Mexican food for lunch.
Save your money, don't pay $13 dollars for guacamole, and go enjoy Mexican food at any number of good locations...
Read moreWe went to Tio’s with some friends looking forward to some good Mexican food. It was a Friday night and we expected a bit of a wait. But to our delight we were seated quickly and that is were thing started to go down hill. We waited close to 20 mins and a server had not even asked us for drinks. We finally asked a worker if we could get some drinks. They took our drink order then disappeared for another 10 mins. When the finally brought our drinks we figured they would take our order....nope wrong again. They quickly disappeared after bring out our drinks. We had to wait another 10 mins and tell someone we would like to order some food. So finally a lady come over to take our order. At this point my wife had noticed that the lady that finally took our order had been in a room next to us with another group of people but she wasn’t serving them she was hanging out with them like they were her friends that had come into the restaurant. Fast forward another 35 mins. We finally get our food. My wife had decided to order a jumbo shrimp cocktail that was $16. When they brought it out we were convinced it was the wrong item as it had just a few tiny (I mean really small) shrimp not even the size of a nickel. I found the server and explained we had order the Jumbo shrimp cocktail. And she explained to that this was the Jumbo shrimp cocktail.... confused I asked her to show me were the jumbo shrimp were. I don’t think she understood the question. On top of the jumbo shrimp being not so jumbo they were rubbery and Disgusting. My daughter order a cheese Quesadilla with chicken on the side. They brought her out a chicken quesadilla and the chicken was the grossest chicken I’ve ever tasted like straight out of a can. The chips & Salsa were poor chips were burnt and not salted. I can sadly say this is the worst Mexican restaurant I have...
Read moreI wish I could give 0 stars. They had enough tables open when we arrived however, we stood for over 10 minutes before they even acknowledged we were there to be seated. Looking around at the many other tables, little of them had drinks or food.. It was very muggy, stuffy, and hot as it was. After about almost 15 minutes a very unhappy and hurried waitress plopped two things of chips and what looked like cambells tomato soup down which should have looked like salsa. It had maybe two chunks of onions floating around in the dish. Our daughter bit into a chip and the chip got stuck in her throat. We started to panic when it seemed like water was never going to arrive. I don't know who serves chips and salsa before drinks! We had to get her water from the bathroom as there were no employees in site to help us. They weren't helping ANYONE! after awhile a lady came out and I was already wanting to leave. The older lady asked me in a very annoyed manner what we wanted, and I tried to tell her but I guess I was taking 2 seconds too long because she cut me off and said she would come back with water while I make up my mind! Although I already knew what I wanted! She just wasn't letting me order pretty much. Obviously these people were irritated about being understaffed and too many people to serve. After another 10 minutes of no drinks I got my family of 4 and we left. I have never left a restaurant before. But I knew we would be sitting at that table with chips and "salsa", no water and no food for probably another hour and a half or longer at the rate they were going. Needless to say.. I think they need a visit from Gordan...
