As a coffee shop owner myself, I find it both frustrating and disheartening to see that this particular shop is charging sales tax on to-go hot coffee beverages. Under California tax law, sales tax should only be applied to hot coffee when customers are consuming it *on-site*, NOT when they're ordering/taking it to-go. The issue here goes beyond just the incorrect application of tax--it raises concerns about how long this practice has been in place, which suggests they may have been in violation of state tax law for a significant amount of time. This feels especially unfair given California's already heavy tax burden on businesses. Small business owners like myself are already dealing with the challenges of high operating costs, and it's frustrating to see other businesses contribute to the issue by passing unnecessary tax burdens onto customers. Whether this was an honest mistake or an intentional oversight, it ultimately results in customers paying more than they should--and that's problematic. That said, I want to acknowledge that the coffee itself is decent and the atmosphere in the shop is warm and inviting. These are positive aspects that make this situation all the more disappointing. A coffee shop with good coffee and a welcoming environment shouldn't be tarnished by easily avoidable mistakes or questionable business practices. What really soured my experience, though, was the way the cashier responded when I politely pointed out the issue. Instead of handling my concern professionally or even acknowledging it, she gave me an attitude when I simply asked her to relay the matter to the owner. It was an unfortunate interaction that left a bad taste, despite the good coffee. Additionally, I find it perplexing that they charge a fee for the bamboo cup with every hot beverage - .25 cents. While I understand that businesses often have their own cost structures and pricing models, this charge feels like another small, unnecessary expense tacked onto the price of a simple coffee. Again, it's their prerogative to set their prices however they see fit, but these little charges--especially when they don't seem fully transparent or justified--can add up quickly and leave customers feeling nickel-and-dimed. Given all of this, I regret to say that I won't be returning to this shop. It's especially disappointing to see a place with such potential undermined by avoidable business practices. What makes it even more disheartening is the way a simple customer interaction turned sour. I sincerely hope the owner takes this feedback to heart, as addressing these issues is crucial--not only to improve customer satisfaction but also to protect the business from potential legal and financial consequences. This sales tax violation, in particular, is a significant issue that could have serious long-term repercussions if left unaddressed. Taking corrective action could make a meaningful difference in both customer loyalty and the overall success of the business moving forward. I should also note that while their prices are comparable to premium coffees like 100% Kona (handpicked beans) or Jamaica Blue Mountain, it’s worth pointing out that Three Pines Coffee sources its beans from Latin America. In my opinion, their coffee doesn’t justify the steep price tag.

During our recent trip to Tahoe, we had the pleasure of stopping at this eco-conscious coffee shop nestled in the stunning surroundings by the lake. They proudly serve organic fair trade coffee sourced from Panama, reflecting their commitment to ethical sourcing and quality. Upon entering, you are greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and a serene ambiance that harmonizes with the natural beauty of the surroundings. The cozy seating areas, adorned with rustic decor and bathed in natural light, offer a tranquil setting to immerse yourself in the coffee experience. The menu highlights a variety of specialty drinks crafted from the organic fair trade beans, showcasing the rich flavors and quality of their offerings. From velvety mochas to robust espressos, each sip unveils the distinct and carefully selected flavors of the beans. In addition to the exceptional coffee selection, the menu boasts a range of organic and sustainably sourced food options, catering to health-conscious customers seeking guilt-free indulgence. Whether you crave a light snack or a nourishing meal, the cafe presents a delectable array of choices to meet your needs. Three Pines Coffee transcends being merely a place for coffee; it embodies values of sustainability, quality, and natural beauty. With its eco-friendly practices, organic offerings, and tranquil atmosphere, it stands as a destination for those in pursuit of a coffee experience in Tahoe. We definitely will be back on our next visit.

Eesh... Extremely overpriced and not really delivering that coffee shop experience: $4-$6 for plain ol' drip coffee, you only get ~10oz of it, and no WiFi. This place seems to be going for a more elevated coffee experience. And honestly, they *might* be achieving it? I'm not sure, because it's not really what I'm looking for when I go to a coffee shop. This place just felt way to big for its britches. I mean, when I saw the measly few ounces of coffee I got for $4 all I could think was 'thank goodness I didn't spring for the $6 brew.' And the streusel bread I got, while warmed up for me, was stale and pretty unappealing. I fully recognize that this may be exactly what some people are looking for. It's more off a connoisseur type of place. The service *was* good. (The only reason they get 3 stars.) The guy who poured my coffee for me certainly knew a lot about coffee. But, if you just want a cuppa joe or to spend some time working on your laptop, don't come here.

I was in Tahoe over a long weekend and was incredibly pleased with this coffee shop. So much in fact that my wife and friends went here every day we were in Tahoe. All of us over the course of the weekend got a chance to sample just about everything on their menu. Espresso to matcha, cold brew to pour-overs, and several different pastries. All of it was what you would want and expect from a high quality independent coffee shop.

I've got ten plus years experience in the coffee industry and Three Pines sets the bar for what you should expect from a well cared for independent coffee shop. The shop was well maintained, the aesthetic was bright with touches of earth tones, and the espresso bar was immaculate at all times. It's pretty clear the folks at Three Pines care greatly for the environment and product they provide. Do yourself a favor, if you want a quality coffee experience visit the folks at Three Pines, Tahoe should be honored to have them.

Lastly, a note to the folks who are 1, 2, or 3 starring this place and complaining about prices and no WiFi. You came in expecting Starbucks, and didn't get that. It's not the fault of the shop. Believe me, I get the appeal of Starbucks and the like, when I just need coffee quick, of course I'm going to go to places that put an emphasis on speed over quality. However, Three Pines, they are offering a very specific experience that is miles away Starbucks and other corporate coffee chains. Please be a bit more considerate and align your destination with your...
