I wouldn't wear a white t shirt unless you are skilled in the art of ripping open shellfish and sucking out the juicy and seasoned meat. A very primal and very satisfying experience to some but for others can be seen as a messy choir.
My discovery of this establishment is form smelling it from a few blocks over. One my way to the gym this place can give off the smell of seasoned sea food that makes my mouth water. Foe some you may feel right at home but others may want to look up on how to properly rip open a crab leg with acrylic nails. The staff however is very helpful in recommending what to eat, how you may like the dish a well as providing most of the tools to get the job done. Some may be putt off by the lack of plates and being served a hot bag of crab but I felt right at home. Would be nice to have some gloves but I understand if its part of the experience.
The Whole-Shabang flavor style is the house favorite and defiantly my recommendation. I do think the "mild" was somehow weaker than what was advertised, and this i coming from someone who really can not handle spicy food. But the flavors are there in full force, a nice addition was the lime with pepper and salt plastic shots to dip some crab in. This was surprisingly delicious and will defiantly be part of my method of eating next time I come back.
I can forgive the market prices for practically everything on the menu however I was a bit disappointed that corn and potato are an extra charge. Really my guy? I will run across the street and get some veggies for the low if I gotta, this should be included in my opinion. Not to mention the lack of biscuits or bread to scoop up any left over sauce is another short sighted miss. This is a meal where you should never feel held back to get more of the crazy good flavors, and to see a bag of good sauce go to waste like that is almost a crime.
But you know what this is an experience that people should try and I can't think of an another type of restaurant that can deliver this type of fun and taste. I recommend bringing some family members or even a first date to get an idea of how messy they are...
Read moreI love seafood, especially crab and shrimp. Nothing makes me happier than piles of steamed shellfish spread all over a table and great friends to help devour it. If that is what you are looking for tonight, you may be a little disappointed. What you will find at The Boiling Crab is, in my opinion, unreasonably high market prices and lots of plastic waste. Everything that is brought out with the exception of the fried food(of which I did find to be outstanding. More later)is in plastic bags. You have to reach into the bag(which is filled with your favorite garlicky/buttery/cajun sauce) break off a piece of crab and pass the bag to your buddy at the table and repeat. No gloves. No tongs. I get it, this is a "get dirty" kind of place. You cant dump the bag on the table because the sauce will spill everywhere. Would be nice if they had a tray or something to pour the bags on to. I was prepared for a messy dinner, make sure you are if you decide to dine at The Boiling Crab.
Enough with the negative. If you are still reading then you must still be on the fence. The fried food was dy-no-mite. Really. The shrimp, calamari and oysters where very lightly breaded and accompanied with what seemed to be a home made cocktail sauce that was thinner that the store bought stuff and really tasty. I also really enjoyed the lemon pepper French fries. They were seasoned perfectly and served in generous portions. I do wish that we ordered some wings. Something tells me they are good. I dont know, guess I'll have to go back and give...
Read moreCame in to eat around 3pm on Sunday. Walked in the place was pretty empty. Never been here so was looking for something new to eat. After the host made us sit in the waiting area for about 10 min while they “set us up a table” we finally were seated. Menu is pretty basic. Nothing great about the menu. Everything is mostly a la carte and you pay for everything even an extra corn. I got some items for the kids to eat and me and my wife ordered snowcrabs and crawfish with sausage and corn. They have no beer on tap so I ordered some bevs ( just sodas ) & the kids meal items, basic fried fish/chicken stuff, came after about 25 minutes of being there. As the kids finished up their meals, (about another 15min pass by) my wife and I still havent received our meal, we kept seeing everyone around get food that had been seated after us and not one wait staff asked if we would like refills for our drinks. After a full 50min. wait I saw the manager come out of his office and went to tend another customer with an issue. I flagged him down as he walked by and I informed him of the situation. He was kind enough to “see what was going on” and brought us our food. We did not receive any bibs or shell crackers even after he brought out our food. At the end, just bad service... food was average at best, I lived in Louisiana for many years so this just wasnt it for me. The manager did credit me for my wait issue but it wasn’t enough to keep me from ever...
