The Horse & Jockey — Restaurant in South Pasadena

I visited here to try there so called Fish n Chips that they are suppose to be so great at. When our waitress asked for our order i asked her if the fish was fresh and hand battered. She replied yes so i ordered them. When the plate arrived it was a very nice presentation but when i cut into the fish a great deal of water ran out onto the plate which signifies that it was frozen fish and wasn't thawed properly prior to cooking. The waitress asked if everything was ok and i showed her the water and told her i couldn't eat that. She smiled and asked if i would like anything else. I told her that i would take the Pot Pie. All this time i was very pleasant and never got upset. Once my Pot Pie arrived i cut it open and the inside was ok to eat but the bottom was just like raw dough. Very disappointing. I will say that we had some of the best Onion Rings that i have eaten anywhere and i try Onion Rings from just about everyplace that i go. The Onion Rings were the only item that was a good value for the price. I never got upset and i just asked for the check and i paid and left. Once i left i wrote a review on there FaceBook page and they replied calling me a Prick and telling me that i was Prick the entire time i was at the restaurant. I have witness's to vouch that i was nothing but polite. I will never go back and i am making sure that i am letting as many people know what my experience was...

The food was ok. My husband is English and we drove down from Orlando to try this place. We are from NC and everytime we travel we try to find an English pub to try.

The menu items looked great and the review were good but in the end we were disappointed. We had the Scotch Egg and it was pretty much flavourless. We also had the fish spread and it was very good. I don't have anything to really compare it to but over all it was my favourite. My husband had the fish and chips. The fish was good but the chips were cold. I had the Madras Chicken and the flavour was good but it was just warm and not very attractive. Needless to say, we didn't try dessert.

Finally, when the waitress took the bill, she returned the paper money but not the coin change. If she had of told me that they didn't give change, I would have gotten the change for her but she just assumed I would be ok with her keeping my money... I wasn't. I ended up giving her the change for the bill and got my dollar back. If the food had of been better I may have overlooked that but I thought it was rude. When you go out for a meal, you expect a certain level of quality and this just didn't meet it. Sadly, I cook these same dishes at home in my home kitchen, and they turn out better. I remember when this thisnplace was actually great! Unfortunately those days have passed. Walked in and was met with an employee telling a guest " I'm the best smelling sweaty person you'll ever meet". Weird but sure buddy, service was slow as 1 man was essentially trying to it all. No problem, my wife and inhave great awareness and patience. We finally order drinks and an app, well... the Scottish Egg easily can be put in the US Open Tennis as it was so firm and yet bouncy? Unfortunately there was no flavor and just awful. (0/10) Onto the meal, my wife got the Lamb shank, this came out with very burned carrots, an extremely dry shank, and flavorless potatoes. A great $26 plate for sure... I went the bangers and mash route. Welp, my feelings were mashed when this let down came out of the kitchen. The sausage was so absurdly poor, I guarantee I could've used it as bait and not caught a single thing. Shank (3/10) Bangers (0/10)

The waiter caught on and asked if he could do anything, I did say it was not very good but didn't fight for anything free and he was still tipped as the dishes sat still full on the table. So to the tune of $90+, a message sent to the restaurant with no reply.. here we are.
