I’ll be frank. Avoid this place. We dined at the Mesquite Chop House about a half dozen times when it first opened years ago. It was a well appointed steakhouse with service, staff, food, drinks and atmosphere to match. We got good value for money. However, that’s not the case anymore. I understand the restaurant changed ownership/management a few years ago. It’s physically the same building and decor, but everything else has certainly gone downhill. We made a reservation through Google mentioning it was our anniversary as a special occasion. However, there was never any recognition made of our special occasion. We were seated in the well appointed bar and anticipated service and beverages to match the atmosphere. However, the server was inked up as if she was at a biker bar with an attitude and demeanor to match. We ordered call brand alcohol but my old fashioned was served over crushed ice and without a cherry. We ordered pork chops and a ribeye. Since we were sharing we requested the ribeye be cooked medium well. However, the steak was red and cool to the touch; more of a rare to medium rare at best. The pork chop also was rare inside and had to be sent back. We were never offered bread, I had to asked for bread was told they were out. The restaurant was at ~20% capacity; no excuse for not having bread. The kicker was when the bill came. The total was $164 as expected, but when they ran the credit card I noted additional charges. We questioned the charge and was told it was a ‘Covid’ fee to cover expenses. In reality is was credit card fee. I questioned why the fee wasn’t mentioned online or on the menu. The server explained many customers weren’t happy about it. We ended up paying cash to avoid the fee. We will never go back Mesquite Chop House and recommend others avoid it too. There are plenty of other options for good steak. I guess, the biggest disappointment was the fact that we expected high-end service for the price we paid but we’re given the service expected at a $20 franchise steakhouse. By the way. As of 11 February 2025 this has one review. Has it been blocked by Google?

We have been here before and loved it but it had been a while. We decided to go back, then I read some of the bad reviews, and almost decided to go elsewhere but thought, nah, I want to see if its really that bad now. Honestly, it was great! We had an early reservation (5:45) and arrived around 5:40. We walked in the door and was seated immediately. They weren't very busy for a Friday night, I'm assuming because of some of the recent negative reviews. The staff was very friendly, our appetizer (bacon wrapped shrimp) was awesome and whatever they gave us to spread on our bread was next level! I ordered a ribeye cooked medium, and my wife ordered the boneless grilled chicken breast and both were full of flavor and cooked perfectly! We both ordered the garlic mashed potatoes loaded and the reviews were spot on with this though... They were bad, but with a lot of salt and some pepper they were edible. Mesquite Chophouse, y'all have to fix this!!! Potatoes aren't hard to make... Like at all! No flavor and they really did make us wonder if they were instant. Not to mention it cost me an extra $8 just to have them as my side. A steak should come with a side, but anyways, our experience was excellent! I would recommend maybe trying to beat the crowd if you plan on dining here, it worked out great for us! Also, the chefs name is Blair, I think, and he gave me the best steak a restaurant has given me in a long time!!! Good job bro! I hope management has started working out some of the issues other customers had but we didn't have any problems tonight! Thank you guys for an awesome experience and date night!!!

This review only pertains to Mesquite Chop House's special occasion brunches. We have been long time customers of Mesquite for dinners and particularly special occasion brunches. For several years they discontinued their brunches altogether. Recently they have resumed this service. Perhaps they should rethink this. We normally reserve their private dining room and bring a party of 8-12. This Easter we had 8 including a one year old. The adult buffet was $35. The serving line was arranged oddly starting in the bar with the roast beef carving table at the beginning. Near the roast beef were several dishes such as pasta. These were served in disposable aluminum pans which tended to flex. There was no steam table so the dishes weren't heated. Next was a low table with children's dishes. Finally the breakfast dishes were offered. The hash browns were served with tongs which made them hard to pick up. The bacon was very rare. We had to ask the waiter to bring us well done bacon. There were small pancakes and small waffles pre-cooked but no obvious toppings, e.g. syrup, chocolate berries, nuts or whipped cream. I went and got a server and asked him where the syrup was and he couldn't find it. He asked me where we were seated and said he would bring us some. What he brought was syrup in little plastic containers like you'd get at McDonald's. The desert section consisted of chocolate brownies, lemon squares and 2 or 3 varieties of muffins. There was no cake or pie. The wait service was excellent as usual but the food and presentation didn't meet my expectations for a $35 brunch.

My partner and I chose this restaurant for our date night, and despite some initial hesitation due to mixed reviews, we are thrilled that we decided to visit.

Reservation & Atmosphere: The reservation process was seamless, and we were pleasantly surprised to secure a last-minute booking. Upon arrival, we found the ambiance inviting, creating the perfect setting for an enjoyable evening.

Service: Our server, Camille, provided outstanding service. She was highly knowledgeable about the menu, offering excellent recommendations, and ensured our dining experience was seamless by checking on us frequently. Additionally, her engaging and professional demeanor made for a warm and welcoming experience.

Food: For appetizers, my partner opted for the Wild Game Experience, which featured duck, elk, and bison. Each meat was cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and expertly prepared. The dish earned a 9.5/10, with the only minor critique being the expected “gamey” aftertaste of the duck. I selected the crab cakes, which were enjoyable, though not as exceptional as the wild game. I would rate them a 7/10.

The highlight of the evening, however, was the steaks.

I ordered the 14 oz. New York Strip with a loaded baked potato. It had been a while since I had an exceptional steak, and this one did not disappoint. Cooked to a flawless medium, it was incredibly tender, packed with flavor, and required no additional seasoning or sauce—an indication of a truly great steak. Without hesitation, I rate it 20/10. The baked potato, while flavorful, was not as hot as I would have preferred, so I would give it a 7.5/10.

My partner ordered the 14 oz. Ribeye, which he also rated 20/10. Cooked to a perfect medium with a beautifully executed crust, it was one of the best steaks he has had in a long time. However, the mashed potatoes he ordered as a side were underwhelming, earning a 5/10.

Chef Acknowledgment: During our meal, Camille informed us that Blair was the chef responsible for preparing our dishes. We had heard/read great reviews about him beforehand and were delighted to experience his culinary expertise firsthand. From the duck, elk, and bison to our perfectly cooked steaks, his craftsmanship was evident. Cooking such a variety of meats to perfection is no small feat, and Blair exceeded our expectations. A heartfelt thank you to him for an exceptional dining experience!

Overall Rating: We rate our meal 9.5/10 and would absolutely return. This restaurant is highly recommended for a date night or any...

Hate to give such a low review, but the quality of the service as well as the food and pricing has taken a nose dive in my opinion. Went with my wife for a celebratory dinner only to wait for almost an hour while people were being seated that came in after us without a reservation, but this was a minor inconvenience. The problems began once we were seated next to a party of about eight people; mind you the sign stated no parties over six during the pandemic, this was the third or fourth party over that amount including two parties that were about 14 people. The party seated next to us proceeded to be so loud that they could be heard outside the restaurant, to say nothing of the two other parties sitting in the same section. I could not even hear what my wife was saying to me across the table. The next to last insult was the food was over cooked and dry, the chicken breast my wife ordered was so dry she ate about three bites before asking for a to go container and finishing a couple glasses of water to re hydrate. The last straw was the fine print on the menu that states that there is a 39% price increase, if I remember correctly, unless the bill was paid in cash. My wife and I have been there three or four times and had the same thing every time we went and were quite familiar with what the average cost of our meal ran. When we received out bill, it was almost 60 dollars more than it had been any other time we had been there and paying with a credit card every time. I am the last one to complain about an expensive meal, but paying almost 200 dollars for an undercooked steak and an overcooked, dry chicken breast and two beers in conjunction with the inability of the staff to control the party seated in the section with us was unacceptable. Any one of of these issues I would have chocked up to just an off night, but this was the second time that food was terribly prepared and we had given this one last chance only to be disappointed again. I would expect the type of behavior and noise levels there that night to a Chuck E Cheese, not a restaurant that supposedly prides itself on atmosphere and quality food. Take your chances, and make sure that you pay attention to the fine print and verify the things you are charged for and pray you don't get seated next to the same party we had to endure. It ruined a perfectly good date night for me and my wife and will definitely be the last time that we pay that much for...
