Updated 4/8/2025: I started ordering again when there was free delivery recently, and at first I didn't notice the spicy tuna missing from my order. Last week I noticed, and again this week missing and even smaller portion sizes. I had even put a reminder "Please don't forget the extra protein like last week." To no avail.
Come on, guys. Paying $38 to end up with $7+ of food missing is ridiculous. My recommendation stands. Do delivery at your own risk from this place. I've been going to Poke Poke Southfield since 2019, when I discovered Poke on a trip to New York City.
My biggest recommendation? Get carry out. Do not get delivery unless you're desperate and willing to be disappointed.
When you order in person, you tend to get a larger helping of rice and toppings, and you can make sure you get all of your toppings. My order regularly touches the lid.
It seems like every time I order delivery, something is missing. The avocado I paid for, or the sauces I paid for. Maybe it's the extra protein I paid extra for. It's a guessing game of "what's not going to show up today?". When ordering delivery, the quantity of rice in the large is less than a regular bowl, too - my delivery orders never touch the lid, and if they include the sauces I ordered, they're inside the bowl. If you add special instructions (ie, sauce on the rice as well as the toppings), it's another gamble if it'll be done, but most likely won't be there.
The quality of the food itself has generally been good. Some weeks are better than others. The rice is well cooked and not crunchy, my wife says the greens are fresh. The tuna sometimes looks a little off-color, and sometimes (like today) it's a perfect deep-red color. But I've never gotten sick or had any issues - the food is generally fresh.
The spicy mayo used to be blazing hot, but they've toned it down and tastes great.
If you like Poke', you can't go wrong here. Unless you get delivery, in which case... may the odds be ever in your...
Read moreGood flavors from toppings but the rice was WAY overcooked. It's completely mushed together. Sticky rice can be hard to get right for sure so it's understood it's not perfect in the first month. Not only was the rice poor, the fish was cut too small. They are to be cut into semi large cubes and this fish was cut into tiny mushy shapes. I suspect this is to give the impression of more food but it did not turn out very well. What needs to be done: fish needs to be cut into large cubes- each should be large enough to be grabbed by chopsticks and firm enough to not be mushy, rice needs to be properly cooked- the flavor seems decent but if sticky rice is going to be used, it needs to be properly done. Do not mush the rice into a glob and it will improve. All in all, good flavor from the seaweed salad and ginger dressing but the food needs to be done in the way the advert suggests as it is the right way. Make the fish pieces larger, do not need to give more food but they must be larger . Properly prepare and serve the rice. By doing these two things, this place will gain a complete 5 star as there is nothing else...
Read moreI came into the restaurant with my daughter for the first time, and the young man behind the counter looked meanly at us, did not greet us, nor did he say “May I help you,” he just stared and stood there glaring at us. She began to tell him what she wanted and he acted as if he couldn’t hear her. I am sure he couldn’t hear her because he had AirPods in his ear. He also got her order wrong and when I saw him putting the wrong tea in her cup, I said something and he turned and glared at us again so hard and angrily as if it was our fault. My 12 year old stated she would keep the incorrect order. I asked her if she was sure because she didn’t have to, and she said yes. I later asked if that is what she really wanted and she said no, but he was just looked so upset about it, a 12 year old didn’t know what to do with that.
He was unprofessional, uninviting, a poor representation, should be ashamed of his behavior toward a customer especially a child and presented a horrible first impression to a place we had never been to. . We will never patronize this place and will...
