"specialty items / great place / no complaints"
Preface: This place just opened up and I saw some reviews were 'meh', so I wanted to help get the ball rolling with their new location.
Intro: So what attracted me to go eat here was from the local newspaper mentioning six new items on the menu that are only available at this East Main location that were created in collaboration with the chefs over at Cribb's Kitchen. - very cool; and they're great too.
Dishes mentioned in the article include a grits soufflé, baked peaches and cream pancakes, a shrimp and grits omelet, and a bleu brisket burger.
Arrival/Staff: I went to the restaurant on a Saturday fairly early around 7 AM so things were still quiet for the morning and I was a little tired. - But that didn't stop my waitress from waking me up and giving me a warm-welcome to get me settled in. And throughout the meal she was very attentive, helpful, hospitable, and never let my coffee cup run empty - shout-out to Shanika/"Nik"!
The Food: Starting things off with the shrimp and grits omelet, it was just perfect - very filling, yet still light enough to eat in the morning. The omelet had plenty of shrimp and peppers inside. I don't eat grits a lot so this might be a normal thing, but I was very impressed that the grits looked like they had a lot of flavor, but were actually light on flavor so people can flavor it how they prefer, but it also works complementary in tandem with the great flavor of the shrimp omelet. I suggest squeezing the lemon provided on top of the omelet as it helps further give the meal a refreshing zing for the morning, and also bringing out the seafood-flare of the shrimp. I also added a little hot sauce along it to give it little more zing and kick.
Then for dessert, I had to get some pancakes. I love the flavor combination of fruit and cream, so the peaches and cream pancakes were a no-brainer. Upon looking at the special pancakes, on top sits this curious pile of "cream-icing" is what I'm calling it. I don't like things too sweet, so I was hesitant at first and thought I might have to slide some excess to the side, but after a couple bites it turned out to be just the right amount of sweetness and thickness binding the peaches to the pancake in each bite. I ended up smearing the icing all over the top of the pancakes - no syrup needed! - Another thing; this thing is PACKED with peaches! Which is great cuz some places could get away with putting fruit just on top of the pancakes, so I was pleasantly surprised when I uncovered the layer of peaches tucked away between both pancakes!
Interior: This inside of this place is very spacious and really clean - as in fresh and crisp to the eye. The white interior makes it pop and the fun designs adorning the walls make it feel homey, yet still modern. They even have a cool side-wing of the place that looked perfect for business meetings equipped with a big, meeting table, office chairs, and a widescreen TV for presentations - very cool aspect to have built in at the restaurant. (Though, I'm not sure if it's open to reserve/rent out - the newspaper article did mention this location would be used for training purposes so it might only be for company purposes.)
Overall, great place with great food. - 'would come again to try out the other menu exclusives, or to just eat at a place that hatches up new ideas compared to other regular breakfast...
Read moreLet me be clear. My review is of the staff, not of the food or restaurant. Our food was as we expected and was very good. The restaurant was clean and a nice environment. Our waitress was Cassidy. She was very nice when we saw her. We arrived on a Sunday around noon. We knew we would have to wait a little bit as Sundays are very busy. We were very patient. The wait wasn't actually that long. They sat us. We ordered our drinks. They came out pretty fast. We ordered our food. Food took 35 minutes to get out to the table. Cassidy checked on us only 1 time in that 35 minutes and that was only a few minutes before our food came out. Cassidy did not drop off our food to table. 2 other people did. The ketchup was empty on our table. We had home fries. I put the ketchup at the edge of the table and continued eating the rest of our food first. Also, I had only one special request, that my home fries be left on the grill a little longer to make them crunchy. They were not. We finished eating all of our food except the home fries. 4 people with empty plates except home fries. Finally after 20 minutes of no one checking on us, I raised my hand. Staff looked at me and kept going. I finally got the attention of what seemed to be a door manager and said, can I please get some ketchup? She went and traded out our ketchup. A moment later,, Cassidy came over. I hadn't touched my home fries yet and so I asked if they could throw it on the grill for a few more seconds to make them crunchy, not to mention that they were cold at this point. She did so. When my home fried came back, it was a whole new plate of home fries. Still not really crunchy but that wasn't her fault. But another waiter had come and taken all the empty plates and silverware so I asked Cassidy for a fork. She said, I will be right back. She never came back. I waited 10 minutes. I had to use my wife's spoon she had used for her coffee. Then another lady dropped off our check. Then Cassidy came back, no fork, but was happy to stand there as she ran my card. I felt forced to leave a tip as she was watching me put in my information even though I did not feel she deserved one. Also, I felt there were way too many employees standing at the door rather then filling in some of the gaps in service. 4 employees at the door but I couldn't get ketchup and a fork. Perhaps that door manager should be making rounds and asking if people need anything. Just my thoughts. We will definitely be back as we love your food but probably not to that location...
Read moreI just had a very embarrassing experience here as a delivery driver. This happened at 7:35 a.m. on 4/11/24 if anyone wants to check the cameras to see who was working.
I'm a delivery driver and I've never had a problem at an eggs up grill before, but I had a delivery today where they were out of crab cakes. No one contacted the service, no one contacted me, I drove several miles to get here just to find out that they don't have the ingredients. The customer asks for a substitution that I think was even less value than what she had ordered and the lady absolutely refused. She then refused to assist us with canceling the order. I had the customer on the phone explaining to the lady how to cancel the order and she wouldn't even listen she just kept shaking her head and saying that she can't do it. It looked so bad on the restaurant. Even if she really can't do it the way that she was coldly and bluntly not helpful was so embarrassing. Other customers in the restaurant were staring and making faces because it was that embarrassing. I never will eat here personally again and I never will come here for another delivery. The lady that was on the other line was absolutely appalled by how unhelpful the woman at the restaurant was. The woman was either totally ignorant to the fact she was being that help unhelpful or she just openly is an a** I don't know what it is. New woman was a heavy set Italian lady about middle-aged. I wanted to get her name but the thought of another interaction was too painful since she can openly just be a rude...
