Old Skool and Still Kool !!!!
I had the pleasure of dining at Daves during a trip to the Spokane Valley Area. I had just been on the road all day at Pend Orielle and Kootenai Falls and arrived at Daves around 7:00 pm. I had no trouble finding parking as someone was pulling out right when I arrived and I parked in the back. I came in through the back door and felt I went back in time to an age of pool halls, smoking and burgers. What I saw was folks of all ages, families, kids, elderly folk, etc. and the place was packed with all kinds of food being served. I sat at the bar and was greeted by the bartender who told me that the Prime Rib would be my best choice as that was one of the dishes Daves was known for. Seated at the bar beside was a fellow who ordered the dinner portion of the popular coconut shrimp which he said he has been eating for over 30 years. Coconut Shrimp? Prime Rib? A wall full of lottery tickets? Luckily Daves had an Amber Altbier on tap from The Alaskan Brewing Company which would be the best match for everything.
Out came the shrimp, with its rich, crispy and crunchy coconut coating with juicy plump shrimp inside. The shrimp was so good, I almost cancelled my Prime Rib order to get more !!! I chatted with some of the staff and had a few more sips of my Amber Altbier when the Prime Rib came out. Juicy, Tender delicious and cooked to perfection that's what I got. I've eaten at some of the leading Steakhouses in North America, so I was surprised at how well prepared these restaurants Prime Rib was. Hats off to Daves Bar and Grill for their very well made Food !!! The Jus and the big hearty Slice of buttery garlic bread was a nice touch to complete this meal. I see why Daves is so popular. It may be an older style establishment, but they still are going strong and making...
Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite breakfast spots. The quality of the food unfortunately has gone down. I got steak & eggs this morning & the steak was not edible. I ordered, medium rare & it was borderline well done. The steak itself was a seemingly cheap fatty cut. Typically when you have almost your whole meal left on your plate the waitress would ask if the food alright, but they did not. I ate three bites of potato’s, one slice of bread (because there was no yoke) & two eggs. No offer to take it off the tab or make a new one. The waitress was less than four inches from me when I said “ the steak is not edible”. Not to mention the food has been this way the past few times we have gone. We came back because we have been going here 24 years we figured they had an off day. The potatoes were dry & overcooked w/ black burnt pieces on every single piece. The past few times our toast comes when we are almost completely done with our meal. Most people eat their toast with their eggs so I waited for my toast to arrive by then my eggs were completely cold. Eggs over cooked for OM hardly any yolk. The servers try their best, but if the food is not up to par it just ruins the experience. My Husband ‘s omelette was good; however he did not like the potatoes either. I would have given a one star, but chose to give 2 due to my husband’s omelette being good & the server doing a great job. However if people are not eating at least half of meal, there is a reason why. After over two decades of coming here for breakfast, I think that was our last visit. Sucks to waste almost $20 on steak & eggs that were not edible, highly...
Read moreUpdate: Returned to try again on 4/28. We tried the same meals (bacon cheeseburgers, fries). Specifically asked for well done burgers. I’m sad to say burgers were again undercooked. Only slightly more done than rare. The serving of crispy fries I received was embarrassing at best. Obviously the last cup or so of the bag. Just very small bits and pieces that might have been ok if not overcooked to a crisp. After my fist review the owner replied and generously offered me a $20 gift certificate which I didn’t redeem or even ask to obtain as it was left at the bar. I appreciate the offer but would have been happy with a cooked burger and properly cooked fries. I looked at other plates of fries as I left and they looked good. I think you should just toss the last cup or two of the tiny bits and pieces of fries rather than over cooking them and giving them to a customer. Unfortunately I regret to say we won’t be back. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
Original review: Service was good and fast. Prices fair. Had bacon cheeseburgers and they were ok; except mostly rare or med rare at best. Now that may be ok if buying burger from a reliable source but when burger is a previously frozen patty from a large corporate supplier which buys mass produced meat, it’s a better idea to cook them to at least 160 degrees (no pink). Wasn’t asked how I wanted burger cooked and I forgot to say. Waitress was great. Lettuce, tomato and onion on burger was fresh and good. Steak fries and crispy fries...
