I was unfortunately very disappointed with my wedding cake from Sweet Frostings Blissful Bakeshop. I've included pictures to show the difference between what I ordered and what I received. I will start with the positives of my experience. Piper was personable and easy to work with, and I enjoyed our experience with the cake tasting. Everything leading up to the wedding date went pretty smooth.
Unfortunately, the day of the wedding the cake came damaged as the cake layers were sliding and the cake was coming apart. There were several highly skilled cake bakers in attendance at my wedding and they were able to fix it as there was little time before the wedding started. The delivery person was not trained to fix the cake and did not have the appropriate tools either. This is not an issue a professional bakery should have, especially when paying top dollar.
The second issue was the cake decoration. When ordering the cake I clarified several times that Sweet Frostings had the skill required to create the design I wanted. I wish they would have been honest about their skill level or better gauged their ability. If I had known I would have chosen a simpler design.
A few weeks after the wedding I called Sweet Frostings to communicate my frustrations with being delivered a damaged cake and my disappointment with the design. It was honestly a poor experience. They did not take responsibility for delivering a damaged cake instead they asked for proof. When I addressed how the cake did not look like the picture I provided they did not take responsibility for that either. I had several calls with Piper and then the manager to discuss some form of refund. Finally, after several conversations the shop admitted the cake was not their finest work and they offered a few hundred dollars refund. I received a few hundred dollars back after paying over $1,200 for the cake.
Even with the errors of the cake the customer service after the wedding was what left a bitter taste. I really wish the shop would have apologized, taken ownership of the issues and given a refund that reflected the product I received. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend them to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe called in January to book Sweet Frostings for our wedding which is in August. The gal on the phone took down our order and deposit over the phone and said that we could discuss flavors at the tasting consultation. She told us that there was no need to book an appointment to do the tasting and that we could come in whenever.
Fast forward to yesterday, we called ahead to let the shop know that we were coming down to do our tasting. The woman on the phone seem confused but told us to come down anyways. When we arrived the woman at the counter acted as though they had no idea who we were. We told her that we had booked them over the phone in January and paid half of our deposit. It wasn't until we showed them the charge from our bank statement that they were able to find the order. It turns out that the woman at the counter was the one who helped us over the phone. She really didn't take any ownership for the situation. Instead she sort of shifted the blame to us and said we ordered in a weird way.
After the order was found she kept asking us if we were just there to pay the second half of our deposit. We explained to her several times that all we had done was pay, we hadn't discussed flavors which is why we were there, to do a taste test. Despite trying to be as clear as possible, we were ultimately not given the opportunity to taste any of their products. Instead, we kind of just blindly picked flavors that sounded good. If we weren't so close to the wedding I would have considered going to another shop.
I'm not the type of person to typically post a review like this, however, doing the desert taste test was something we were excited about and it ended up being more frustrating than anything. It could have been the staff was just having an off day so I will be happy to adjust my review based on the finished product on our wedding day.
Update: We opted to go with a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery disappointed with the service at the downtown location. I ordered cakes 2 weeks in advance and my order was not put in the correct spot. The day before my event, the cakes could not be made leaving me to scramble to find somewhere else with no compensation or offer of making it right.
When ordering the cakes, I was undecided on the decoration I wanted for the cakes, but was told by the employee that I would be okay to call a few days in advance to let them know if I had decided to do a decoration or not. She asked if Iād like to pay then or when I picked the cakes up and I decided to pay when I came to pick them up. I called a few days in advance and gave a design for one of the cakes, but wasnāt sure what I wanted for the others. The employee told me it was fine, that they had my order and they would still be made but to call the day before the event to give my decoration. Again, she said I could pay upon picking the cakes up. I called the day before and was told my cakes were in the āpendingā folder because I had not paid in advance for my cakes and now they were unable to make my cakes because they were too busy. I explained what the employees had told me and the woman I spoke to, Elizabeth stated that that wasnāt their protocol, doubted thatās what I was told and said there was no way to have my cakes made. She offered me the cakes they already had pre-baked not in the sizes or flavors I wanted. There was no offer of compensation or apology. No offer to discount anything in compensation for the loss and now having to find another bakery to do my cakes.
Sweet Frostings cakes at good, but there are many other wonderful bakeries in Spokane that I will choose to have...
