We had high hopes for our evening celebrating my wife and her twin sisters birthday last night, but we found ourselves sorely disappointed by several aspects of the experience. Reservations made for 5 pm several weeks in advance, seated on time as they were opening up for the evening and were handed single sheet paper menus that said "show menus" on them. Asked for the regular menus as we had seen online many tapas we wanted to try and share, only to be told they weren't available due to the Broadway show that was on tap across the street and the need to get diners in and out quickly. Well, that would have been nice to know prior to making the reservation ... that they wouldn't be serving a full menu. In fact we had just looked at it online the day before ... nothing mentioned about it anywhere. We made the best of it as we could, had some drinks (not bad), poutine (pretty good) and a Caesar salad (okay) to start with. My wife and her sister decided to split the salmon ravioli for their dinner ... big mistake and I wish we had read the reviews ahead of time as many have already commented on the fact it is only 5 ravioli, and nothing else with it. Not much for them to split. But then again, it wasn't what we were going there for to begin with. I had the steak (cooked to perfection) and 2 sides that came with it which were both good. After dinner we ordered desserts (both were good) and asked for a whiskey menu to choose from. Strike 2 ... there is no whiskey menu ... I was told that I needed to get up from my table, go into the bar and see what they had on the wall because there were so many of them. A self proclaimed whiskey bar? That doesn't have a menu of their whiskey's? That's just sad, and upon being helped by the bartender after getting up and going there I said that to her, and she totally agreed that you would think they would have one, but nope. Now, I will say that our dining server was fantastic, was extremely apologetic about the menus, was very attentive without being intrusive, and even comped my wife's dessert for her birthday. We tipped her well cause none of this was her fault, but honestly for the price we paid ($240) for the 3 of us it was definitely not worth it by all our accounts. Strike 3? As we were leaving, at 7:00 pm with the show across the street starting in 30 minutes, the restaurant was only half full ... and most of those were made up of a group of conventioneers staying there at the hotel and that were sitting at one of their long tables. There was absolutely no need to eliminate the regular menu. Sigh. Crossing this one off our list and...
Read moreI made a reservation for 7 people for my birthday. Arrived and the host was very pleasant and welcoming. Sadly I can’t say the same for our server. She came over with water and when the rest of my party arrived she took our drink orders which consisted of sodas and 1 cocktail. We then ordered appetizers and our meals. I ordered oysters assuming they were raw since the menu online and at the restaurant didn’t say they were breaded and baked. The main dishes arrived and the steak was way under, bleeding on the plate even though my sister requested medium well. My smashed fingerling potatoes, and salmon was extremely salty. My two friends that ordered pasta were extremely salty as well. Did I mention I still haven’t received the oyster, right, well the 1/2 dozen I ordered came after our main dishes arrived and we started eating. The server didn’t bring out the food, or come ask if everything was good. We were already a few bites in when she came back around to check on our empty drinks, and I mentioned the oysters still haven’t come out. She blamed the kitchen and went and grabbed 5 of the 6 and later as we were about finished eating came by again and stated “sorry, I was talking to another table for a while” as I literally saw her at a 2 top for a very long time ignoring our table. She had 3 2 tops as well as our table so I’m not sure why you’d focus on a smaller table when you could have made $100+ in tips from ours. Either way we tipped accordingly and let her know I’d be paying cash. She took the ticket book and didn’t come back with my brothers card. So, after about 10 more minutes I went and said can we get the card back, which she said were a cashless restaurant, which no where online nor in the restaurant said that, so I said just keep the cash as a tip. She again said sorry I was talking to the other table for so long, “they’re old and like to talk”. Uhm, ookay, so rude first off, second, perhaps learn how to manage your time better. Sadly we won't be going back based on the food quality but mainly the service...
Read moreDon't go here before a show. The restaurant is not prepared to serve guests during rushes and you'll be waiting too long for food that is too expensive.
We had a reservation (requiring a non-refundable deposit) for 6pm. We had a show across the street at 7:30. We didn't get a chance to order anything until 6:27. We didn't receive anything - food or drinks - until 6:57 - nearly an hour. We were stressing out that whole time, wondering if we'd get dinner in time to get into the theater or if we would have to leave without eating. The staff was rushed, unclear where to deliver food multiple times, apologizing to nearby tables for delays and botched courses, and clearly having a miserable time.
The food was perfectly good. But far too expensive for something that is adequate. $22 is too much for a cheeseburger that's not incredibly special. Although I did appreciate the crisply grilled bun, gooey regional cheese, and juicy high quality beef. The cocktail was also nicely made, but again, too expensive. The kitchen and bar are clearly doing a quality job here, but they are understaffed and without a plan for rushes.
If Table 13 is going to offer service during known rush times while not staffing at appropriate levels, I would recommend limiting the available seating, or prepping a small menu of pre-show options which they can quickly finish and serve with a barebones staff. Just don't provide a service if it's going to...
