Risen like a phoenix from the ashes of Ramir Bolanos DeCastro’s beloved Purple Potato it is as a Bakery that the former Yonaka Chef’s legacy continues to grow via Donuts, Cookies, Ube-based treats and Filipino Pastries.
Previously offered for delivery or takeout only, but now brick and mortar at 6370 W Flamingo Rd #20, it was Tuesday that seventeen items were procured for tasting and shared by a group during workhours.
Never actually gone from the local food scene, the rebranding of Yonaka and Purple Potato followed by a consulting gig at LAS, Chef DeCastro’s current lineup continues with Croissant, Ring and Polvoron Bismarck Donuts, this day featuring a dozen varieties ranging from Pistachio to Salted Yema and several styles featuring Flan.
Also bringing back the Milky Cheese Roll for cooler weather, plus new items for each holiday, fans of things besides Donuts will be delighted to know Ramir recently added Ube Cheese Bars plus a Brownie that is thicker and better.
The only place in town for Ensaymada, traditional Cheese or Ube Cream, additional specials such as the Tres Leches Cake and Cookies sell out early for good reason even though the Buko Pie remains Purple...

So fellow Yelper Rolly T posted pictures and my mind went downhill from there. I was in awe by these pictures and knew I needed to make the drive to go fulfill my craving. When Ube is on the mind you must GO!!!!!
Upon entering was quickly greeted. There is a small menu on a podium if you are waiting in line to see what you would like along with the large menu that hangs above.
I opted for that Ube Latte, Ube Layered Cream Donuts, Ube Cookie, and a Creme Brulee Layered Donut. Now yes the Ube was on point. I could roll around in it, the taste was so good. However why was the Creme Brulee Donut that amazing? It had the hard sugar glaze along with all of the layers. I will admit I had to share my donut and maybe I bit someone's hand in my house. Only speculation LOL
Interior is nice in size. There are a couple of table and chair arrangements, along with a sit up bar and chairs. Everything was very clean. Staff were very courteous and hospitable.

Read moreCute little bakery! Saw a reel about Purple Potato on Instagram, so I was eargerly waiting to go the next time I visited Vegas. For the most part, we enjoyed what we ordered! The polvoron donuts were tasty, and I LOVED the calamansi cheesecake. We also ordered the young coconut pie, but it was too sweet for our palettes. The ube donut was also good, but it doesn’t really taste like real ube to me. For drinks, I ordered a mango latte. The taste was good, but texturally it was a little off-putting because it felt like it was 80% mango pulp.
There were also only 2 people working when we went, so service was a little slow. The bakery seems to be popular, so I think having at least one more person working too would’ve made a huge difference, especially since the bakery is pretty small inside. The employees were really friendly, though!
While the pastries were a little too sweet for our tastes, I think it’s still a nice treat every once in a while. I would still recommend trying it if...
