SomiSomi: A Delightful Korean Dessert Experience
I visited SomiSomi, a charming dessert spot specializing in a unique Korean treat called "Ah-Boong." Setup in Shanghai Plaza of Las Vegas, this delightful establishment offers a heavenly combination of a fish-shaped waffle cone filled with delectable fillings and velvety soft serve. Let me tell you, the experience was nothing short of impressive.
As soon as I stepped into SomiSomi, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The minimalist yet elegant decor created a cozy ambiance that immediately put me at ease. The friendly staff welcomed me with genuine smiles, adding to the overall positive vibe of the place.
The Ah-Boong itself. The fish-shaped waffle cone was beautifully crafted, with a golden brown exterior that was perfectly crispy on the outside and delightfully fluffy on the inside. After browsing their enticing menu, I went for the swirl ube/vanilla soft serve, topped with a generous sprinkle of Oreo cookies. The selection of fillings was also impressive, ranging from traditional red bean paste to more adventurous options like Nutella and custard. I opted for the Nutella filling, and it did not disappoint. The balance of sweetness and texture was spot-on, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that danced in my taste buds. The presentation alone was a feast for the eyes, as the soft serve was meticulously swirled into the fish-shaped taiyaki cone, creating an eye-catching and Instagram-worthy treat.
With eager anticipation, I took my first bite and was instantly greeted with a burst of flavors. The ube and vanilla soft serve complemented each other perfectly, creating a harmonious blend of sweet and creamy goodness. The smooth texture of the soft serve was genuinely delightful, and each spoonful was a heavenly experience.
What truly sets SomiSomi apart is the attention to detail and quality of their ingredients. The fish-shaped taiyaki cone was freshly made, sporting a crispy exterior that contrasted beautifully with the softness of the ice cream. The warm, fluffy taiyaki and the excellent, velvety soft serve were a match made in dessert heaven.
As I savored each bite, I couldn't help but appreciate the care and skill put into crafting this dessert. The Oreo cookie sprinkle added a delightful crunch and a hint of chocolatey goodness, elevating the overall flavor profile. The experience at SomiSomi was a true treat for the senses. From the delightful ambiance to the impeccable execution of their Ah-Boong dessert, it was evident that this establishment takes pride in delivering a memorable experience to its customers.
Overall, my visit to SomiSomi was a resounding success. From the moment I entered to the moment I left, I was impressed by the exceptional quality of the Ah-Boong, the friendly service, and the delightful ambiance. Whether you're a dessert aficionado or simply looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, SomiSomi is a must-visit destination that promises to leave you with a smile and a...
Read moreIf you are hoping you've found real taiyaki and come up on this place, I'm sorry. The look may be...pretty accurate, but that's where your hopes and dreams for real taiyaki will come to an abrupt and painful end. The batter they use comes off like bland aunt Jemima's, which is not bad per se, but it's not right and certainly highlights the many issues with the quality. And unfortunately, you will get to have so much batter since they are incredibly skimpy with the filing, so about 50% minimum will be just straight bland batter. What filling they do have...leaves EVERYTHING TO BE DESIRED. For starters, repeat after me Somisomi, custard is not vanilla pudding. Again. Custard is not vanilla pudding! Why is this important? Because Somisomi doesn't use or make custard for their filling, but they do make bad vanilla pudding and put that in there. The "Oreo" flavor is not a flavor, it is literally two Oreos placed in the taiyaki, so if you thought you were getting a cookies and cream experience, you are actually getting a soggy, stale Oreo flavor. Joy. Taro is made with so much sugar and cream that it tastes almost like warm flavored condensed milk...which is not a flavor you want...but. they did try. They failed on every point, but...
Read moreAh-mazing ah-boong (Korean treat of taiyaki filled with soft serve ice cream)! Their taiyaki (fish-shaped cake) had the best taste and texture I ever had like funnel cake but way better. Here, it arrives hot and filled with the perfect amount of Nutella (do it!!!), custard, taro, or sweet red beans. Then this taiyaki tops soft serve ice cream in rotating flavors and swirls of black sesame, ube, matcha, horchata, milk tea, coffee, banana, oreo, chocolate, and strawberry. You can also get toppings of sprinkles and more plus a strawberry or macaron- all included.
They also offer filled taiyaki by itself in boxes of 2 or 4. During covid times, they only accept credit cards and enforce social distancing. Also, while you can wait and take pictures inside, no dine-in. Despite my visits during peak busy times, I was able to order within a couple minutes and received my entire order within 5 minutes. Ef-fin fin-tastic!!!
NOTES/TIPS: **Plenty of parking in their private lot shared with the rest of Shanghai Plaza. **During the covid pandemic, I opened the back of my crossover in the parking lot so that my family and I could sit and enjoy our treats right away. **They offer free lemon-infused water. Just...
