Letโs face it: Las Vegas is extremely expensive nowadays. There are few deals to be had for hotels anywhere on or immediately adjacent to the strip, and food around the strip is going to cost you a ton of money. A beer in our hotel was $18 for a domestic, and close to $30 for a cocktail. Since I canโt get good sushi in Huntsville, Alabama, I am always eager to go to a place that I know has good sushi, and Las Vegas is one of them. A GF and I went to Umiya based on the reviews we read, and we were not disappointed. Most people do the all you can eat (AYCE) and we were no exception. The price is very reasonable ($35.95), and if you go late at night, it is ridiculously cheap, at about $21. A few things we noticed that were confusing on their menu, that we had to clarify before we started ordering. Both tables around us asked the same questions, so we were not alone.
You have 60 minutes from the time you start ordering to use your AYCE benefit. Some photos of menus shown in reviews say 75 minutes, but our menus said 60, so you have less time to stuff yourself! ๐ We were there about an hour, and it did NOT seem like they were using a stopwatch on us! ๐ When they talk about ordering one item at a time, they are really referring to special order higher value items. They have a little blue ball with a number 1 located next to the item on the menu. Premium items, which you can only order if you get the premium AYCE ($10 more), are also identified with a maroon colored โP.โ We were perfectly satisfied with the scores of normal offerings they had, so it was not worth it to us. This part seemed a little confusing and was what the other tables were asking about as well. Yes, you can order 10 items of sushi at one time if you would like! Not โoneโ๐ The items included in the AYCE include pretty much everything on the menu, be it soups, sushi, tempura, or special small plates. The fish was tasty and fresh. Not the best I have ever had, but still very respectable and good quality. And given the prices, fantastic. Fairly thin strips of fish, but long, and about a third of the rice you would normally have with Nigiri sushi, so you are not getting filled up on rice! ๐ With both of us getting drinks, and the AYCE, we got out for under $100. While you can order ร la carte, if you are getting more than five to six two-piece orders, you are definitely better off just going with the AYCE. Definitely keep this place in mind for affordable, good tasting sushi. If it is during prime dinner hours, consider making a reservation, as it got quite busy as we were leaving. We made our reservation via Open Table....
ย ย ย Read moreThis sushi place was recommended by a dear friend and they weren't wrong. The sushi and speed of service is quite good. And quality of the all you can eat was very surprisingly excellent. So why the 3 stars? Simple, a review isnt based on just the quality of food but its management and services too.
To start we came in from a recommendation and was told there is a hour + wait, we figured that's fine but upon arriving there were about 4 tables that where empty where at least two were able to accommodate us, including the 5th which was the sushi bar that were empty, but they said it was reserved, we figured it is what it is if that is the case, but upon waiting for about 35 minutes in which about two other sets of people arrived and were seated but clearly still 3 tables that can seat us. Clearly if those people reserved they shouldn't be 35 minutes late and management shouldn't allow so many tables empty. But after 46+ minutes (yes I did make note of the time, because I thought how ridiculous that there were 4+ sets of tables empty and they wouldn't give them to patrons that were already there. They decided to give us the tables that were empty.
But off with the bad parts and now for the good parts, the service was friendly and very fast, we ordered the food which was brought to us very quickly. The food is also very good grade surprisingly for all you can eat, so good job with that. The rice portioned with the sushi was just right (not like those other all you can eat places that tries to stuff you with alot of rice. (Its quality isnt like Ikura from California in my other review) but very very good and price affordable for that class. This place would have garnered close to 4.5 stars if not for how ridiculous that mandatory wait was for all those...
ย ย ย Read moreThis Sushi restaurant deserves 5 stars AND MORE.. Would you like to know why I left off the 5th star? I am trying to get the attention of the owner to correct 2 minor, but very annoying, aspects of this establishment. The food is better than excellent! Fresh! Served well! Never had a bad experience. The service is second to none. Faster than any other Sushi restaurant in Vegas (and I have been to most!) The servers are abundant, pleasant, professional..again, Never had a bad experience! The parking is easy. Big parking lot! Always a space! Price? Their late night special is the best part of this place. There is a full, varied menu both cooked and raw. So why will I refrain from leaving the 5th star for ambiance? The place looks wonderful. Pleasantly lit, TV's, large enough spaces between tables BUT for one, the music is loud and awful! They play this EDC electronic noise where the constant beat makes you want to run out the door! I don't know how anyone could work a shift there and not go deaf. The volume is so loud that conversation requires shouting across the small table. The second reason for the poor ambiance is recent. Now that the warmer weather has arrived, the air conditioning is TOO COLD! I understand that the servers are running around but the customers are sitting still and it's very unpleasant for them. If you are not prepared with a long sleeve sweater or pants, you can't wait to pay the bill and leave. There must be some moderate temperature, that everyone, (staff and customers) find comfortable. Please make the adjustment and I will gladly adjust your review...
