The menu boasts a wide array of delectable dishes, and my recent visit was nothing short of extraordinary. I started with the kimchi pancake, a delightful combination of crispy edges and flavorful, tangy kimchi that perfectly whetted my appetite. The Bi Bim Bap with beef was a true masterpiece, with its colorful array of fresh vegetables, tender slices of beef, and a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg on top. Every bite was a burst of harmonious flavors.
But the true star of the show was the Korean-style fried chicken. Crispy, succulent, and impeccably seasoned, it was a revelation. The chicken had the perfect balance of crunch and tenderness, and the flavorful glaze coating each piece was simply divine. Paired with a refreshing Cass beer, it was a match made in heaven.
Apart from the mouthwatering cuisine, Soyo Flamingo also impressed with its attention to detail. The restaurant’s cleanliness was impeccable, and the bathrooms were immaculate—a testament to the establishment’s commitment to providing a top-notch dining experience.
The service was equally commendable, with friendly and attentive staff who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. They were knowledgeable about the menu, ready to offer recommendations, and always wore smiles on their faces.
Overall, Soyo Flamingo is a must-visit destination for lovers of Korean cuisine and those looking for a unique dining experience. The estimated time was 45-60 minutes but Soyo was able to get it to us in 37 minutes. They were able to package everything nicely in one large brown paper bag. Their utensils are neatly organized in a plastic cover wrap unlike the other location (S. Rainbow Blvd). Okay back story. We tried the S. Rainbow location a few days before but they didn't have the braised beef short ribs & mean jeon pancakes on Ubereats/Postmates and I was craving so I got to try them a few days apart.
Braised Beef Short Ribs ($27): This is a fraction of the price compared to LA or Bay Area which is $60-70 for a small now. At first I didn't think it tasted the same but I realized it's the first time we got galbi jjim without mozzarella cheese. The short rib was good but was hard to get off the bone. It wasn't as tender as California's galbi jjim but it was still tender enough. What I really like was the stew. It's so delicious that I can drink it like a soup but it's also amazing with the white rice it comes with. In California, they give you less stew but more content. The vegetables in the stew were braised properly because just melted in your mouth. The flavors were good even though they were a bit less umami than California's galbi jjim. This place also added egg strips on top which gave it a nice texture contrast. Next time I want to try the spicy version or this version again with cheese to see if they're comparable.
Meat Jeon Pancake ($17): These looked really good on the picture but the meat was way too overcooked. The portion size was a little smaller than expected too. For the price, I rather get meat jun which tastes way better. It does come with two dipping sauces: one is a spicy one with
Banchans: They give you 4 banchans in a nice single tray: potatoes, kimchi, zucchinis, and bean sprouts. This location's banchans are better than the S. Rainbow...
Read moreAs someone working in the food industry, I usually don’t leave one-star reviews unless a restaurant is truly terrible. However, today, I decided to write this review to prevent others from experiencing the same disaster—both in terms of food quality and service.
Earlier tonight, our party placed an order through DoorDash, including three servings of fried chicken gizzards and rosé tteokbokki with extra mozzarella cheese. The chicken gizzards looked quite thick in the photos, so I called the restaurant and requested that they be cooked a little more thoroughly. But what did we receive? When the food arrived and we opened it, the chicken gizzards were burnt beyond recognition, resembling beef jerky. They were so overcooked that they were impossible to chew.
I called the restaurant to resolve the issue and asked for the manager, but the staff member who answered said the manager was not on duty at that time. I found it hard to believe that a restaurant could operate without a manager present.
When I asked how they were going to resolve this issue, the employee told me there was nothing they could do and that my only option was to contact DoorDash for a refund. Was that really the only solution?
I was completely shocked by both the disappointing food and the way they handled the situation. The $88 I spent felt like a complete waste.
For reference, their rosé tteokbokki didn’t taste anything like it should and clearly needs improvement from the kitchen.
I would never order from this...
