Truly an awful experience and would not ever go back. My husband wanted to take me out somewhere nice for dinner as it was my birthday. We’ve heard good things about the Eagles Nest so we decided to finally give it a try (and we’re very sorry we did). Upon arriving there was live music, and I honestly feel terrible complaining about it. We usually appreciate live music, but this was just not great. The musician was playing his instruments so loud we could not even have a conversation. The server kept having to repeat himself, my husband and I could not talk amongst ourselves. Even the servers were walking around making faces and literally holding their ears. No exaggeration. We asked if there was somewhere else to sit that would be a little more quiet and were told outside but it was cold. We did move our seats down to other side of the dining room but it still was too loud to enjoy. After looking over the menu, I saw that most items were seafood dishes. I’m not a big seafood fan and would’ve appreciated a few more non-seafood options but that’s our fault for not looking at the menu before arriving. The only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 for this experience is because my husbands meal was ok. Nothing to write home about, but he said his fish was fresh and the rice and broccoli did have good flavor. Our appetizer however was the egg rolls that were on special. The description for them claimed they were filled with brightly colored vegetables, but they were not. It was mostly cabbage with little to no color of any other vegetable. The flavor was good but the breading was too thick for our preference, seemed like more breading than anything else. Definitely not loaded with brightly colored vegetables. The dinner rolls that were brought out, I’m pretty certain, we’re Sister Schubert’s - aka basic, frozen dinner rolls. I ordered a sirloin cooked medium with shrimp and fries. My sirloin came out well done, and was really not a great piece of meat. It had way too much fat webbing which made it hard to cut and chewy to eat - not good at all. The flavor was decent but that’s all I can say about it. After a couple of bites I decided I had to say something. We are not ones to complain so I was hesitant, but this was a $28 dinner plate that I had ordered. I rarely splurge like that and was quickly regretting that I did. Also, my fries came out cold but I did not even bother to say anything about that. By this point I was just really annoyed and disappointed in our experience and wanted to leave. I told the server about the steak, he offered to have it remade but again, I was not interested in eating my meal after my husband had finished his, eating my steak alone after already eating my shrimp and cold fries. So the server asked to take the steak away and said they would adjust the check. They did, they took $16 off so we paid around $12 for some shrimp. With the server knowing it was my birthday and the poor dinner experience I would have thought, like other restaurants, maybe they would offer a dessert or something but no. And I certainly wasn’t up for chancing it and spend even more money on another overpriced yet mediocre food item. So because I never ate my cold fries or overcooked steak, my birthday dinner literally consisted of 2 mediocre egg rolls and some shrimp… I left hungry. Very, very subpar experience and I would not recommend to anyone. We wasted $80 on what we were hoping was going to be a really nice meal and time out together. My husband and I rarely get date nights since we have four young children, and even more rarely do we splurge on a “nice” meal like that. Sorry is an understatement unfortunately. That was a terrible way to celebrate my birthday, we both left feeling so...
Read moreFirst time at Eagles Nest. What a treat! Expectations were up in the air...an old building off a 4 lane road, I was leary we might step back into the 70's with the odor of decades of smoking, sticky carpet and "Bea" the waitress who has been there for 35 years. None of the above. A young, energetic staff tended to us throughout our meal. Atmosphere- I felt like I was in an upscale ski restaurant with warm colors, exposed wood and stone. A beautiful paio, well kept bathrooms, and I regret we arrived after sundown because apparently, they get a bit of nature swag at sundown. Why 4 stars on atomosphere? First, any time I see 5 stars across the board, I get anxious. It's appropriately old. Colors are a little bland, but I heard from a bird that changes to that are coming. Food- it's very hard to find a place that can do complex food in more than one direction. For me, it's a "when in Rome" kind of thing- don't expect magic in a steak at a seafood restaurant. Enter Eagles Nest...hand cut everything in both surf and turf categories. Plenty of options for my body hitting me with a shellfish allergy recently. I had one of the best prime ribs I've had in years. Cooked exactly med rare. Wife had seabass with crab on top. Apps were Delaware oysters on the 1/2 and a very good blackened tuna with wasabi and a tasty little sweet/hot jelly. Food was excellent. Don't read too much at the pricy stuff- lots of options for shorts and flip-flops or suits and ties, octogenarians or football Sunday. Service was perfect. Digging in a bit, we met the owners (they came to us to ask about our experience) and we got to talking...a lovely family operation that kept the key employees employed- GO FAMILY BUSINESSES! My wife says I'm rambling, so let's wrap up...this is a venue too, and I think the new ownership will bend over backwards to make you have a perfect event. Easy on/easy off the highway. Perfect night for us and I hope the 25-50 demographic will check this place out and appreciate the thought that is going into everything. ...
Read moreWe have been going here for several years and it wasn't just the food that was a retaining factor in our longtime loyalty to this place, but the view, ambiance and staff, mainly a server named Chris, who is one of the best servers I have ever encountered, and I have dined in various states and on both coasts, as well as abroad. Chris always made you feel at home, as well as a few other servers that I can't recall their names. Additionally, Eli the manager made sure everything ran with precision and was very professional. There may have been long wait times for a table in previous years, but the atmosphere, food and staff compensated for that. Even after the brief closure during the pandemic, the prices were slightly higher, but quality and service remained. Fast forward, I did hear and read within the last year about a possible change in ownership/management but thought nothing of it, as that's the reality of the restaurant business. However, a recent visit reflected that change, and not in a positive or pleasant light. Upon entry, you could tell the energy and atmosphere was different, and the few employees that were working, albeit a skeleton crew for a busy Sunday evening were stressed, overwhelmed and deflated. Came to find out that several longtime employees and the manager Eli were gone, including Chris. While the food was still good on this visit, it lacked that "legacy" Eagle's Nest flavor and presentation. Plus the initial wait time for service once seated, as well as drinks was unduly long. The server, while trying to do her job, didn't engage like the previous employees and only came back once to check on us to drop the bill. I could also tell other customers were getting impatient. Normally I am not fussy about many things, but to see such a beautiful establishment transition in a negative way is unsettling. I will come back, but don't know when, and won't go out of my way. The sad part is that there are few locally owned restaurants of this caliber in...
